{"id":45354,"date":"2022-04-22T08:39:57","date_gmt":"2022-04-22T12:39:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=45354"},"modified":"2022-04-22T14:50:20","modified_gmt":"2022-04-22T18:50:20","slug":"what-are-we-teaching-our-children-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=45354","title":{"rendered":"What Are We Teaching Our Children?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a article updated April 13,2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebalance.com\/the-u-s-is-losing-its-competitive-advantage-3306225\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Balance<\/a> reported the following:<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-5\" class=\"comp text-passage mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The Program for International Student Assessment tests 15-year-old students around the world and is administered by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In 2018, when the test was last administered, the U.S. placed 11th out of 79 countries in science. It did much worse in math, ranking 30th.<span class=\"mntl-inline-citation mntl-dynamic-tooltip--trigger\" data-id=\"#citation-3\" data-tooltip-position-x=\"left\" data-tooltip-position-y=\"bottom\">2<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-8\" class=\"comp text-passage mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The U.S. scored 478 in math, below the OECD average of 489. That&#8217;s well below the scores of the top five, all of which were in Asia: Singapore at 569, Macao at 555, Hong Kong at 551, Taiwan at 531, and Japan at 527. China was not included in this ranking, since only four provinces participated.<span class=\"mntl-inline-citation mntl-dynamic-tooltip--trigger\" data-id=\"#citation-4\">3<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-11\" class=\"comp text-passage mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>In science, the United States scored at 502, above the OECD average of 489. The top five highest-scorers were Singapore at 551, Macao at 544, Estonia at 530, Japan at 529, and Finland at 522.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_1-0-14\" class=\"comp text-passage mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>When analyzing the U.S.&#8217;s results over the years, it&#8217;s clear that the scores have been stable over time. While not declining, there aren&#8217;t any signs of improvement, either. In fact, there&#8217;s been no detectable change in U.S. students&#8217; math scores since 2003 or science scores since 2006.<span class=\"mntl-inline-citation mntl-dynamic-tooltip--trigger\" data-id=\"#citation-5\" data-tooltip-position-x=\"center\" data-tooltip-position-y=\"top\">4<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8230;The IMD World Competitiveness Center reports that the U.S. is ranked 10th in its 2020 Competitiveness Report. After ranking first in 2018, the U.S. fell to the third spot in 2019. The seven-point tumble to 10th place in 2020 represents the lowest the U.S. has ever been in the annual ranking system by far.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So we are obviously not improving the education of American children. So what are we doing instead?<\/p>\n<p>On April 20, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativereview.com\/texas-school-defends-pressuring-6th-graders-to-protest-as-part-of-queer-week-2657187462.html?utm_source=cr-dailyAM&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=CR%20Daily%202022-04-21&amp;utm_term=ACTIVE%20-%20CR%20Daily\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Conservative Review<\/a> reported the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Miller Middle School in San Marcos, Texas is hosting a \u201cQueer Week\u201d where students as young as sixth grade are urged to dress in \u201cpride\u201d colors, wear nametags with preferred names and pronouns, and \u201cprotest\u201d LGBT discrimination.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cThe goal of the week is to provide a school culture that values diversity, equity and inclusion,\u201d MMS Principal Saumnya Hart told parents in an email forwarded to The Federalist by the school.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220420193550\/https:\/www.smore.com\/mvdph-principal-hart-s-newsletter?ref=email\">\u201cMiller Queer Week\u201d schedule<\/a> obtained by The Federalist, MMS set aside four school days in April \u201cto provide support for students in the LGTBQIA+ community, their allies, and the greater student and staff body.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Beginning on Tuesday, April 19, students were encouraged to \u201cshare their stories on the wall in the hallway in order to stand against mistreatment.\u201d On Wednesday, students were told to \u201cdress in colors of the rainbow to support the LGTBQ+ community.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Nametags designated for \u201cpronouns and preferred names\u201d will be supplied for all students on Thursday, according to the \u201cQueer Week\u201d calendar. On Friday, the week is scheduled to close out with a \u201cNational Day of Silence\u201d where \u201cLGTBQ+ students and their allies protest the harmful effects of harassment and discrimination of LGTBQ people in schools.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article at The Conservative Review notes that the curriculum and lessons planned for that week violate Texas law. Whether or not that is the case, is this really what we want to spend our time teaching our children? The LGTBQ is an alternative, minority lifestyle.
