{"id":45250,"date":"2022-04-14T09:26:52","date_gmt":"2022-04-14T13:26:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=45250"},"modified":"2022-04-14T09:26:52","modified_gmt":"2022-04-14T13:26:52","slug":"weaponizing-government-agencies-for-political-purposes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=45250","title":{"rendered":"Weaponizing Government Agencies For Political Purposes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April 13th, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectveritas.com\/news\/doj-secretly-spied-on-journalists-and-security-details-apple-and-google\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Project Veritas<\/a> reported that <b>between November 2020 and March 2021, the Department of Justice issued nine secret subpoenas and warrants to Apple and Google for the private information of Project Veritas journalists.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In addition to using Apple and Google to surveil the data of Project Veritas\u2019 journalists, the DOJ also spied on journalists\u2019 security detail, accessing private information about them, as well.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Documents show the Department of Justice compelled Apple and Google not to disclose that they were providing the individual\u2019s private data to the government.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>In the case of Google, the DOJ accessed individuals\u2019 payment information, MAC address and browsing history, in addition to other personal information.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Project Veritas\u2019 attorneys filed a motion outlining how the DOJ\u2019s seizures violated the Privacy Protection Act and the Fourth Amendment, in addition to the First Amendment and Common Law Reporter\u2019s Privilege.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The article also notes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>In a statement, the ACLU said they were \u201cdeeply troubled\u201d by the \u201csecret electronic surveillance\u201d conducted by the Department of Justice.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Paul Calli, an attorney for Project Veritas, pointed out that the actions from the government were disproportionate, in addition to arguing the DOJ violated the Privacy Protection Act, the First and Fourth Amendments, and Common Law Reporter\u2019s Privilege.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cBy no reasonable measure can the wholesale seizure of newsgathering materials, attorney-client privileged communications, and irrelevant personal information be considered a proportional response to an alleged low-grade larceny, much less to a non-crime,\u201d said Calli in Project Veritas\u2019 motion filed in response to the disclosures from Microsoft.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The DOJ\u2019s spying campaign represents the latest example of governmental misconduct in, what appears to be, a politically motivated investigation.
