{"id":44226,"date":"2022-01-11T12:18:26","date_gmt":"2022-01-11T17:18:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=44226"},"modified":"2022-01-11T12:18:26","modified_gmt":"2022-01-11T17:18:26","slug":"the-cost-of-the-open-border","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=44226","title":{"rendered":"The Cost Of The Open Border"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/border-patrol-reports-1066-percent-increase-in-fentanyl-seized-in-south-texas_4201427.html?utm_source=ref_share&amp;utm_campaign=fb&amp;rs=SHRFNBS&amp;&amp;fbclid=IwAR1tVn3aG8B-MEQ5rkDQiDwIE8eZuy5se15y5grC4Tkk8H42XKRFULoGuiI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Epoch Times<\/a> posted an article about the amount of fentanyl coming across our southern border.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-customs-and-border-protection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Customs and Border Protection<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-cbp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBP<\/a>) has reported a 1,066 percent increase in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-fentanyl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fentanyl<\/a> seized in south Texas ports during fiscal year 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Border agents at eight ports of entry\u00a0extending from Brownsville to Del Rio said that between Oct. 1, 2020, and Sept. 30, 2021, they\u00a0seized\u00a087,652 pounds of narcotics that would have commanded a combined estimated street value of $786 million, CBP reported on Jan. 5.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Of this,\u00a041,713 pounds was marijuana,\u00a08,592 pounds was cocaine,\u00a033,777 pounds was methamphetamine,\u00a01,215 pounds was heroin, and 588 pounds was fentanyl. That\u2019s a 1,066 percent increase in fentanyl seizures, as well as a 98 percent increase in cocaine seizures, from the year prior.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>They also reported having seized $10.4 million in unreported currency, 463 weapons\u2014up 21 percent from FY 2020\u2014and 84,863 rounds of ammunition.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The eight ports of entry comprise the\u00a0Laredo Field Office. The CBP officers at these ports of entry also noted that in FY 2021, more than 20,701 non-U.S. citizens were inadmissible to the United States due to violations of immigration law.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Randy J. Howe, the Laredo Field Office\u2019s director of field operations, said in a statement that despite significantly less traffic due to travel restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic, \u201cthe drug and contraband threat remained the same.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cOur significant gains in fentanyl and cocaine seizures underscore the deadly nature of the contraband we encounter, the need to utilize Personal Protective Equipment to protect our officers and our continued resolve to carry out our vital border security mission,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An unsecured southern border is a national security threat because we have no idea who is crossing the border and a national health issue&#8211;because of the coronavirus and because of the Americans who have died because of fentanyl use.<\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>China is \u201cthe primary source of fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances trafficked through international mail and express consignment operations, as well as the main source for all fentanyl-related substances trafficked into the United States,\u201d the\u00a0Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) said in its\u00a02020 National Drug Threat Assessment report (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dea.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2021-02\/DIR-008-21%202020%20National%20Drug%20Threat%20Assessment_WEB.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pdf<\/a>).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>A record number of Americans\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fentanyl-overdoses-become-leading-cause-of-death-in-18-to-45-year-olds_4166280.html?utm_source=ai&amp;utm_medium=search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">more than 100,000<\/a>\u2014died of drug overdoses in the 12-month period ending in April, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/nvss\/vsrr\/drug-overdose-data.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a> from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and fentanyl was involved in almost two-thirds of those deaths, making it the largest cause of overdose deaths in the United States.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Overall, during fiscal year 2021, CBP confiscated a total of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/fentanyl-overdoses-become-leading-cause-of-death-in-18-to-45-year-olds_4166280.html?utm_source=ai&amp;utm_medium=search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">11,200 pounds<\/a> of fentanyl\u2014up from 2,150 pounds the year prior, signifying a 521 percent increase.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It should also be noted that some of the deaths from fentanyl have been because someone took a pill they believed to be Oxycontin or some other pain killer that had been laced with fentanyl.
