On Monday The Red State Observer<\/a> reported that the new Manhattan District Attorney has dropped the probe into New York Governor Cuomo’s policy of placing coronavirus patients in nursing homes.<\/p>\n

The new Manhattan district attorney has dropped a probe into Andrew Cuomo over allegations he mishandled nursing homes during the initial coronavirus outbreak, the ex-governor\u2019s lawyer said Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cuomo\u2019s spokesman forwarded a statement from Elkan Abramowitz, an attorney who had repped the governor\u2019s office under Cuomo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI was contacted today by the head of the Elder Care Unit from the Manhattan District Attorney\u2019s Office who informed me they have closed its investigation involving the Executive Chamber and nursing homes,\u201d Abramowitz said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

…The Post reported last August that the state Health Department had retained an outside law firm to deal with inquiries regarding nursing home decisions from the Manhattan DA\u2019s Office as well as state Attorney General Letitia James and the US Attorney for the Eastern District.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Manhattan prosecutor\u2019s office, now headed by new DA Alvin Bragg, declined comment. The probe was initiated by ex-DA Cyrus Vance Jr., whose term ended New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cuomo has faced fierce criticism for a March 25, 2020, directive by his Health Department that ordered nursing homes to admit infected patients being discharged from hospitals, despite the facilities\u2019 vulnerable populations. Independent reports claimed the policy caused more deaths.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The New York Post<\/a> reports:<\/p>\n

\u201cLetting Cuomo off the hook is a bad way to start 2022,\u201d said Vivian Zayas, co-founder of Voices For Seniors, whose mother, Ana Martinez, died of COVID while in a nursing rehab facility.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cFifteen thousand people lost their lives in nursing homes. It doesn\u2019t look like prosecutors are taking this seriously. They\u2019re basically protecting Cuomo.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are disappointed in our judicial system.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

And Assemblyman Ron Kim (D-Queens) said Cuomo isn\u2019t out of the woods yet.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kim, chairman of the Assembly Aging Committee, said he considered the ongoing probes by federal prosecutors and AG James more serious threats to Cuomo than the Manhattan\u00a0DA\u2019s inquiry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cCuomo used his executive power to suppress nursing home deaths while chasing a $5.1 million book deal. Sooner or later the truth will come out,\u201d Kim said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The feds\u2019 probe is still examining the Cuomo administration\u2019s actions relating to the nursing homes and other long-term care facilities after thousands of their residents died from COVID-19.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The FBI also interviewed <\/a>state officials about Cuomo\u2019s $5.1 million profit-making pandemic book \u2014 \u201cAmerican Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic\u201d \u2014 negotiated and published while he was accused of covering up the total nursing home death toll from the pandemic.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The probes by the feds and the AG\u2019s office are still active.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last February, The Post exclusively revealed that then-top Cuomo aide Melissa DeRosa<\/a> privately acknowledged during a video conference with Democratic state lawmakers that administration officials stonewalled them about the extent of nursing home deaths due to a potential investigation by the Justice Department.<\/strong><\/p>\n

That report sparked the Manhattan DA probe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think lady justice needs to put her blindfold back on and get back to equal justice under the law.<\/p>\n
