On Sunday, The New York Post<\/a> posted an article that illustrates why the ‘no bail’ policy currently in effect in New York City does not work.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s the Grinch who stole your wallet.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A serial pickpocket with more than 30 busts under his belt was pinched again last week while targeting unsuspecting tourists at the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, only to be dumped back on the street the next day, law enforcement sources and authorities told The Post.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gary Teasley, 65 \u2014 who has been known to wear snazzy outfits, including a long dark fur coat and fashionable hat, during his alleged crimes \u2014 is so familiar to cops that they\u2019re on a first-name basis, a source said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teasley is such an illicit pro that he also used to keep a storage locker with stolen wallets and other goods \u2014 and a detailed record of the heists, broken down by location and category, sources said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The article notes:<\/p>\n

Teasley was arrested Friday after police said they spotted him unzipping the woman\u2019s purse and reaching inside, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe caught him red-handed,\u2019\u2019 a source said. \u201cWe called him by his first name. We said, \u2018Hey, Gary, don\u2019t give us a hard time.\u2019 We\u2019ve arrested this guy so many times, we\u2019re on a first-name basis.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHe knows the deal, he was saying, \u2018DAT, [desk appearance ticket],\u2019 the whole bail-reform thing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He\u2019s \u201ca very sharp guy, $1,000 suits, skilled at his craft,\u201d the source said. \u201cA wolf in sheep\u2019s clothing.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teasley was hauled into court Saturday on charges of fourth-degree attempted grand larceny and \u201cjostling.\u201d He was released without bail.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Prosecutors had asked that he be released but with supervised restrictions, a rep for the Manhattan District Attorney\u2019s Office said Sunday. The judge denied the request.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve personally been arresting him for 20 years,\u2019\u2019 a police source said. \u201cThese guys are all coming out of the woodwork around the tree.\u2019\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n
