If the government is working well, it creates an environment where the private sector can create jobs.<\/p>\n<p>However, some of the rhetoric coming out of Congress right now is amazing. Howie Carr at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonherald.com\/news\/columnists\/view.bg?articleid=1363117\">Boston Herald<\/a>\u00a0posted an article today on some recent statements by Representative Nancy Pelosi on the economy. The article reports some of her statements:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Late last month, at a fund-raiser in her hometown of San Francisco, she discussed those wonderful days of 2007, when the Democrats retook control of the House and raised the minimum wage. It hadn\u2019t been increased for a decade.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"AdMiddle\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cIt was kept down for the purpose that people would not be able to live on that. They\u2019d have to borrow against home-equity loans, against their mortgages.\u201d<\/strong><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<p><strong>\u201cThey\u2019d have to live on credit cards, and what are they doing when they\u2019re doing that? They\u2019re paying fees to the banks.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cYou wonder, do their children breathe? Do they drink water? Why do they not care? But they don\u2019t. But they don\u2019t.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cImagine that they are protecting the tax cuts for top 2 percent, it\u2019s really more higher than that, lower than that, I mean a higher number \u2014 percentage of people excluded for who they\u2019re looking out for.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAnd it\u2019s a stunning thing because it\u2019s a few people amassing money that doesn\u2019t really make a difference in their quality of life.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWhat more do they want? They have enough homes, the yacht, ya-da-da-da, the tall masts, the whole thing, they have museum-quality art.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><strong>\u201cThey want immortality. They want so much money .\u2009.\u2009. for prestige they could never get any other way.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Ms. Pelosi made additional comments today on why the unemployment numbers are low. <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/on-the-money\/801-economy\/179353-pelosi-blames-gop-for-jobs-numbers\">The Hill<\/a>\u00a0reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cWe cannot afford another 241 days of Republican refusal to pass jobs legislation,\u201d Pelosi said in a statement. \u201cThe only plans offered by Republicans have not only failed to create jobs \u2014 they actually have destroyed them.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t like to confuse things with facts, but the Democrats controlled the House and the Senate up until January of this year. The Democrats still control the Senate and the Republicans do not have the numbers to block any legislation. The Republicans in the House have passed budget and plans for the deficit.
