{"id":42834,"date":"2021-08-06T14:31:25","date_gmt":"2021-08-06T18:31:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=42834"},"modified":"2021-08-06T14:31:25","modified_gmt":"2021-08-06T18:31:25","slug":"lying-with-statistics-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=42834","title":{"rendered":"Lying With Statistics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/lockerroom.johnlocke.org\/2021\/08\/04\/cdc-hints-at-covid-19-hospitalizations-and-deaths-not-related-to-covid-19\/?mc_cid=c07c5c1970&amp;mc_eid=9277a4c204\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Locker Room<\/a> (a website of the John Locke Foundation) posted an article with the following headline, &#8220;CDC hints at scope of Covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths \u201cnot related to Covid-19\u201d.&#8221; Wait! What?<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>On June 26, <a href=\"https:\/\/wlos.com\/news\/news-13-investigates\/how-many-nc-hospitals-are-reporting-covid-data\">WLOS News 13<\/a> was told by DHHS spokesperson Kelly Haight that \u201cThe number of people hospitalized [for Covid-19] includes <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">those who have tested positive for COVID and those admitted for other reasons<\/span>, but placed on infection prevention precautions.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Wait, what?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>As part of our \u201cFog of Covid-19 Data\u201d series last year, I wrote about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.johnlocke.org\/update\/the-fog-of-covid-19-data-hospitalizations-and-deaths\/\">great uncertainty surrounding actual hospitalizations and deaths from Covid-19<\/a>. A snippet:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong>In regular conversation, a <em>hospitalized COVID-19 patient<\/em> would mean <em>someone whose COVID infection is so bad it\u2019s put him in the hospital<\/em>. To Gov. Roy Cooper\u2019s Department of Health and Human Services, however, it means <em>someone who is in the hospital for any reason and who has tested positive for COVID-19<\/em>. That\u2019s a key distinction. I\u2019ll explain.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wlos.com\/news\/news-13-investigates\/how-many-nc-hospitals-are-reporting-covid-data\">DHHS admits<\/a> no distinction between a hospitalization <em>for<\/em> COVID and hospitalization <em>with<\/em> COVID. Hospitalizations <em>for\u00a0<\/em>COVID are the dangerous infections people rightly worry about. Hospitalizations <em>with<\/em> COVID are when people are <em>in the hospital for other reasons<\/em> \u2014 a chest ailment, a car accident, a medical procedure, etc. \u2014 and as part of the routine clinical assessment, they test positive for COVID.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><strong>How many people are in one group and not the next? It\u2019s hard to tell from this vantage point. Counting the two groups together, however, only inflates the number and gives the impression that dangerous infections are higher than they are. How much higher, who can tell?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sounds a bit disingenuous to me.<\/p>\n<p>The article also includes the following:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/CDCGraphJuly26.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-42835 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/CDCGraphJuly26.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"753\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/CDCGraphJuly26.jpg 753w, https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/CDCGraphJuly26-300x164.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/CDCGraphJuly26-500x274.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 753px) 100vw, 753px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>So roughly one-fourth of \u201cbreakthrough\u201d Covid-19 hospitalizations (26%) and deaths (24%) were \u201casymptomatic or not related to Covid-19.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Note: Just as it\u2019s in the political interests of the CDC, DHHS, et al. to inflate the overall cases, hospitalizations, and deaths, it\u2019s in the political interests of the CDC to downplay concerns about the vaccines by <em>removing the inflation from \u201cbreakthrough\u201d Covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h6 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Questions going forward<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>This revelation leaves several questions, however. Do \u201cbreakthrough\u201d hospitalizations and deaths behave differently from other Covid-19 infections? Would that mean more inflation in \u201cbreakthrough\u201d cases \u2014 or less?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>How many of North Carolina\u2019s Covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths were \u201cnot related to Covid-19\u201d? Is it more or less than one-fourth? We still don\u2019t know.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>All we know is, again, the official numbers are inflated. By how much, they still won\u2019t say.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Covid is real.
