On July 4, 2019, The Washington Times posted an article detailing some of the arguments then Senator Joe Biden made against giving refuge to South Vietnamese<\/a> fleeing to America. The statement simply does not line up with statements and claims that the former Vice-President is currently making.<\/p>\n

The article reports:<\/p>\n

Democratic presidential front-runner Joseph R. Biden<\/a>, who has denounced President Trump\u2019s efforts against Central American asylum-seekers, vigorously opposed resettling as refugees South Vietnamese who had helped the U.S. during the war.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Washington Examiner reported<\/a> Thursday, citing records<\/a> from the administration of President Gerald R. Ford<\/a>, that as a U.S. senator, Mr. Biden<\/a> tried to deny refuge to hundreds of thousands fleeing the imminent North Vietnamese victory and likely Communist persecution.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr. Biden<\/a>\u2019s arguments about refugees reverse what he and other Democrats now insist are the only moral stances, saying that the U.S. had \u201cno obligation, moral or otherwise, to evacuate foreign nationals,\u201d the Examiner reported.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Certainly the need to provide asylum at that time was critical. Anyone even accused of helping America or siding with America was going to be executed as soon as the communists took over South Vietnam.<\/p>\n

The article continues:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States has no obligation to evacuate one \u2014 or 100,001 \u2014 South Vietnamese,\u201d Mr. Biden<\/a> said then.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In an April 1975 meeting at the White House with Ford<\/a> and several of his top foreign-policy officials including Henry Kissinger, Mr. Biden<\/a> said he would not vote to fund evacuation of non-Americans.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The article concludes:<\/p>\n

\u201cI will vote for any amount for getting the Americans out. I don\u2019t want it mixed with getting the Vietnamese out,\u201d Mr. Biden<\/a> said, speaking two weeks before the fall of Saigon.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This angered Ford<\/a>, calling such a refusal a betrayal of American values in terms similar to what Democrats say about Mr. Trump in 2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe opened our door to the Hungarians. \u2026 Our tradition is to welcome the oppressed,\u201d Ford<\/a> said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a Miami Herald op-ed column<\/a> last month, Mr. Biden<\/a> called the Trump administration\u2019s efforts to keep out or discourage asylum seekers at the border, \u201cactions that subvert American values.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr. Biden<\/a> didn\u2019t get his way on opening American doors to endangered South Vietnamese.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He was one of only three Foreign Relations panel members to vote against Ford<\/a>\u2019s funding request and one of just 14 to do so on the Senate floor.<\/strong><\/p>\n

More than 130,000 South Vietnamese fleeing the victorious Communists were eventually evacuated and granted refuge in the U.S.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I guess then Senator Biden figured the Vietnamese wouldn’t vote Democrat.<\/p>\n
