Yesterday The Daily Signal<\/a> posted an article about a Senate bill sponsored by Senator Kelly Loeffler. The Bill is titled The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2020. The text of the bill can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The essence of the bill is as follows:<\/p>\n

1 SEC.2.AMENDMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

2\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Section 901 of the Education Amendments of 1972<\/strong><\/p>\n

3\u00a0 (20 U.S.C. 1681) is amended by adding at the end the<\/strong><\/p>\n

4\u00a0 following:<\/strong><\/p>\n

5\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u2018\u2018(d)(1) It shall be a violation of subsection (a) for<\/strong><\/p>\n

6\u00a0 a recipient of Federal funds who operates, sponsors, or<\/strong><\/p>\n

7\u00a0 facilitates athletic programs or activities to permit a per-<\/strong><\/p>\n

8\u00a0 son whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program<\/strong><\/p>\n

9\u00a0 or activity that is designated for women or girls.<\/strong><\/p>\n

10\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u2018\u2018(2) For purposes of this subsection, sex shall be rec-<\/strong><\/p>\n

11\u00a0 ognized based solely on a person\u2019s reproductive biology<\/strong><\/p>\n

12\u00a0 and genetics at birth.\u2019\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The article at The Daily Signal concludes:<\/p>\n

\u201cTitle IX established a fair and equal chance for women and girls to compete, and sports should be no exception,\u201d said Loeffler. \u201cAs someone who learned invaluable life lessons and built confidence playing sports throughout my life, I\u2019m proud to lead this legislation to ensure girls of all ages can enjoy those same opportunities. This commonsense bill protects women and girls by safeguarding fairness and leveling the athletic field that Title IX guarantees.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Regardless of what one thinks about the transgender movement or \u201cgender identity\u201d protections in other areas of life, fair athletic competition demands such a policy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A similar bill was passed at the state level in\u00a0Idaho<\/a>\u00a0this year (and was immediately challenged in court). But Title IX protected women and girls nationwide\u2014and Loeffler\u2019s amendment would do the same.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For that, Sen. Kelly Loeffler deserves a gold medal.<\/strong><\/p>\n

How many fathers of teenage girls are comfortable with teenage boys being allowed in the girls’ locker room? This bill seems to provide a much-needed dose of common sense.<\/p>\n
