{"id":39857,"date":"2020-08-31T09:27:54","date_gmt":"2020-08-31T13:27:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=39857"},"modified":"2020-08-31T09:27:54","modified_gmt":"2020-08-31T13:27:54","slug":"combating-the-leaks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=39857","title":{"rendered":"Combating The Leaks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/ratcliffe-defends-halting-election-briefings-says-congress-is-leaking-classified-information_3481280.html?ref=brief_News&amp;utm_source=morningbriefnoe&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Epoch Times<\/a> posted an article about Director of National Intelligence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-john-ratcliffe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Ratcliffe<\/a>&#8216;s recent decision to scale back election security briefings in person to Congress because of leaks.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Over the weekend, reports said Ratcliffe and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) told the House and Senate intelligence committees that it will still provide written briefings on election security matters. Ratcliffe, in letters to the panels, said that leaks from members of Congress were a primary reason for the change.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Ratcliffe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/director-national-intelligence-ratcliffe-election-congress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> on Fox News that he had been frequently briefing \u201cnot just the oversight committees but every member of Congress.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>But, he said,\u00a0\u201cwithin minutes of one of those briefings ending, a number of members of Congress went to a number of different outlets and leaked classified information for political purposes.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>He said that it was designed \u201cto create a narrative that simply isn\u2019t true, that somehow Russia is a greater national security threat than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-china\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">China<\/a>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cI don\u2019t mean to minimize Russia. They are a serious national security threat, but day in, day out, the threats that we face from China are significantly greater,\u201d Ratcliffe said. \u201cAnyone who says otherwise is just politicizing intelligence for their own narrative.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Obviously Democrats are complaining about the move, but until the leaking stops, I think it is a good idea. The Democrats are still being briefed, but I suspect leaks may be easier to trace.
