{"id":38616,"date":"2020-04-13T08:32:30","date_gmt":"2020-04-13T12:32:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=38616"},"modified":"2020-04-13T08:32:30","modified_gmt":"2020-04-13T12:32:30","slug":"this-definitely-adds-a-new-twist-to-the-discussion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=38616","title":{"rendered":"This Definitely Adds A New Twist To The Discussion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/04\/09\/coronavirus-traces-found-in-massachusetts-wastewater\/?utm_source=facebook_sitebuttons&amp;utm_medium=site+buttons&amp;utm_campaign=site+buttons&amp;fbclid=IwAR1MdkmV2NMGXXD99h-MERpPwJ-URbZQJoTCYgZAZJ04-gwVNsZKoGRXTKA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Post<\/a> posted an article about an interesting discovery related to the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Coronavirus was detected in Massachusetts sewage at higher levels than expected, suggesting there are many more undiagnosed patients than previously known, according to a new study.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Researchers from biotech startup Biobot Analytics collected samples from a wastewater facility for an unnamed metropolitan area in late March, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2020\/04\/07\/new-research-wastewater-community-spread-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to a report Tuesday on medRxiv<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The virus has a very specific genetic make-up that allows scientists to identify it.<\/p>\n<p>The article details the results of the study:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt;\">\u201cEven if those viral particles are no longer active or capable of infecting humans, they may still carry genetic material that can be detected using an approach called PCR (polymerase chain reaction), which amplifies the genetic signal many orders of magnitude, creating billions of copies of the genome for each starting virus,\u201d Alm told the outlet.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt;\">The researchers, along with a team from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard, and Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital, analyzed the samples and found the number of coronavirus particles equated with 2,300 people being infected with the virus.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman',serif; color: windowtext;\">\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: windowtext; font-style: normal;\">But at the time of tests, there were only 446 confirmed cases in the region, according to the study.<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt;\">\u201cIt was interesting that our estimation was definitely higher than the number of confirmed cases in the area,\u201d said Mariana Matus, CEO and co-founder of Biobot, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statnews.com\/2020\/04\/07\/new-research-wastewater-community-spread-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: windowtext;\">according to Stat News<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The good news in this study is that we may be developing &#8216;herd immunity&#8217; to this virus that will make it much less dangerous in the future.
