Patrick Neville, now a Colorado State Representative, is a survivor of that shooting. On February 24, 2016, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/onpolitics\/2016\/02\/24\/columbine-survivor-pushes-for-guns-in-schools-colorado\/80876462\/?fbclid=IwAR1YHnJEa_4pn85GweAGgNE6OghyF8ykD2F1InY3Mp_3qCs9JoUqTLOI36A\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">USA Today<\/a> posted an article about some of his comments on guns in schools. In view of the recent attacks on the Second Amendment, I wanted to post his comments.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Colorado State Rep. Patrick Neville, a\u00a0survivor of the Columbine High School shooting,\u00a0<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"http:\/\/www.coloradoan.com\/story\/news\/local\/colorado\/2016\/02\/23\/theater-shooting-victims-dad-running-colorado-senate\/80805242\/\" data-t-l=\"|inline|intext|n\/a\">introduced a bill\u00a0<\/a>Tuesday\u00a0that would allow\u00a0guns in Colorado schools.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Neville was\u00a0a student at\u00a0Columbine\u00a0on April 20, 1999, when two peers opened fire, killing\u00a013 people.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cThe only thing that is going to stop murderers intent on doing harm is to give good people the legal authority to carry a gun to protect themselves and our children,\u201d Neville said in a statement,\u00a0<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/270420-columbine-survivor-calls-for-guns-in-schools\" data-t-l=\"|inline|intext|n\/a\">according to\u00a0<em>The Hill<\/em><\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cMore of my friends would still be alive today.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>The bill put forward by Neville, a Republican, would let\u00a0teachers with concealed weapons permits carry guns at the state&#8217;s schools in an\u00a0attempt to halt future shootings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Neville introduced the same bill last year,\u00a0<a class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/231445-columbine-lawmaker-pushing-for-guns-in-schools\" data-t-l=\"|inline|intext|n\/a\">which failed<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>\u201cUnfortunately, the current system continues to leave our children as sitting targets for criminals intent on doing harm,&#8221; he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is the voice of someone who survived a school shooting. Had there been a good guy with a gun at Columbine High School, the death toll would have been considerably lower.
