On Saturday, Breitbart<\/a> posted an article quoting Walter Williams on the new gun registration measures being instituted in Virginia. Walter Williams is a columnist and a George Mason economics Professor.<\/p>\n

The article reports:<\/p>\n

On December 10, 2019, Breitbart News reported<\/a> that Northam changed his position from supporting an across-the-board ban on possession of such weapons to supporting a ban only in a situation where a person refuses to register the firearm with the government. The\u00a0Virginia Mercury<\/em>\u00a0quoted<\/a>\u00a0Northam spokeswoman Alena Yarmosky saying, \u201cThe governor\u2019s assault weapons ban will include a grandfather clause for individuals who already own assault weapons, with the requirement they register their weapons before the end of a designated grace period.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

On December 27, 2019, Walter E. Williams used a Fox News op-ed<\/a> to warn Virginians \u201cnot to fall for the registration trick.\u201d He said, \u201cKnowing who owns what weapons is the first step to confiscation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the article, Walter Williams quoted James Madison in Federalist Paper No. 46:<\/p>\n

James Madison, in Federalist Paper No. 46 wrote that the Constitution preserves \u201cthe advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation \u2026 (where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thomas Jefferson wrote:\u00a0\u201cWhat country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Too many Americans believe the\u00a0Second Amendment grants\u00a0Americans the right to own firearms only to go hunting and for self-protection. The framers of our Constitution had no such intent in mind.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The article concludes:<\/p>\n

Eighty-six of Virginia\u2019s 95 counties have declared<\/a> themselves Second Amendment Sanctuaries in which future gun controls passed by Northam and his Democrat colleagues will not be enforced.<\/strong><\/p>\n
