A website called The BL<\/a> posted an article on Saturday that illustrates how the media can edit or take out of context a quote in order to change its meaning. The statement in question is the one being cited by Democrats to support their charge of ‘abuse of power’ leveled against President Trump.<\/p>\n

The article reports:<\/p>\n

As Breitbart News<\/a> points out, CNN<\/a> legal analyst and former Attorney General Elie Honig cited the clip edited in two special broadcasts explaining the case of the impeachment inquiry against Trump, one broadcast on Thursday and the other on Friday, Dec. 6.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition, MSNBC presenter and political commentator Chris Mathews played a similar video of Trump\u2019s words on Wednesday during the \u201cHardball \u201cprogram. And MSNBC host Joe Scarboroug again quoted the clip edited on \u201cMorning Joe\u201d on Thursday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The problem is that the quote was totally taken out of context.<\/p>\n

In the original video, the president explains, \u201cLook, Article II, I would be allowed to fire Robert Mueller. Assuming I did all of the things, I said I want to fire him. Number one, I didn\u2019t. He wasn\u2019t fired.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cNumber one, very importantly but more importantly, Article II allows me to do whatever I want. Article II would allow me to fire him. I wasn\u2019t going to fire him. You know why\u2014because I watched Richard Nixon firing everybody and that didn\u2019t work out too well,\u201d the president explains in the clip, as picked up by Breitbart News.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Context matters. How many Americans have heard the fractured quote and believed it without having any idea of what was actually referenced?
