On Wednesday, The Epoch Times<\/a> reported on a bill in the Senate that was designed to lower drug prices.<\/p>\n

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer<\/a> (D-N.Y.) blocked a bill that would lower prescription drug costs, arguing that a measure that addresses other health care issues would be better.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) wanted a bill he co-sponsored with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) to be passed unanimously on Nov. 13, but Schumer blocked the measure by objecting to Cornyn\u2019s request for a unanimous vote.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Schumer said he didn\u2019t oppose the bill\u2019s substance, but accused Cornyn of playing a \u201clittle game\u201d to try to get his bill passed when action on additional issues in health care was being blocked by Republicans, according to The Hill<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a whole lot of legislative ideas, not just his,\u201d Schumer said on the floor. \u201cHis party blocks everything that would have far larger consequence.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Schumer said there were better legislative options than Cornyn\u2019s bill, including one introduced by\u00a0Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cornyn responded by saying Schumer\u2019s blocking of the measure\u00a0was \u201cwhat people hate about Washington.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cMy bill is not going to sink the prospects of that larger package of legislation,\u201d Cornyn said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not going to agree to price-fixing by the U.S. government,\u201d he added about another measure Schumer cited, which would let Medicare negotiate drug prices.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bill is noncontroversial and bipartisan. There is no reason to block it other than politics.<\/p>\n
