The College Fix<\/a> posted an article yesterday about a course being taught at the University of North Carolina Wilmington by Dr. Mike Adams.<\/p>\n

The article reports:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat does the evidence say about the claims of the Black Lives Matter movement?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIs the criminal justice system really systematically racist?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIs there really a rape epidemic on our college campuses?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat was that you were saying about white privilege?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat was that you were saying about patriarchal oppression?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

These are some of the study prompts for a new class to be offered at the University of North Carolina Wilmington called \u201cIssues in Criminal Justice.\u201d Were these topics taught by a left-leaning scholar, the classroom conversations and readings might have gone one way.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But the class is the brainchild of one of the most well-known and outspoken Christian conservative scholars in the nation \u2014 criminology Professor Mike Adams \u2014 and he promises that students will finally get a chance to hear how those on the right would answer these questions, and more.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He calls the class \u201ca reasoned response to systematic academic malpractice.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPlease note that whereas political leftists author virtually all of the readings in your other courses, conservatives and libertarians author most of the readings in this course,\u201d the syllabus states. \u201cThis is done so that you will be exposed to beliefs that contradict those of the vast majority of your professors. Often, these dissenting views are presented only as caricatures. In this class, you will hear from the proponents of such views directly.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among the required reading list: Mike Lee\u2019s \u201cOur Lost Constitution<\/a>: The Willful Subversion of America\u2019s Founding Document\u201d; John Lott Jr.\u2019s \u201cMore Guns, Less Crime<\/a>: Understanding Crime And Gun Control Laws\u201d; K.C. Johnson\u2019s and Stuart Taylor\u2019s \u201cThe Campus Rape Frenzy<\/a>: The Attack On Due Process At America\u2019s Universities\u201d; and Heather Mac Donald\u2019s \u201cThe War On Cops<\/a>: How The Attack On Law And Order Makes Everyone Less Safe.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The article concludes:<\/p>\n

Adams said he is disappointed in how his colleagues no longer teach both sides of an issue.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a legitimate question as to whether all my colleagues are just incompetent or whether it\u2019s just that they have a moral compass that points to them,\u201d Adams told The Fix<\/em>. \u201cI\u2019m really trying to figure out if they\u2019re intellectually herniated or just morally herniated. But in all likelihood it\u2019s improper to attribute it to one or the other. It\u2019s got to be a combination because the situation has just gotten so bad. I just have to teach a course like this one.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Adams made national headlines in 2014 when he won a seven-year court battle against the University of North Carolina Wilmington for retaliating against him for his conservative, Christian views. As part of the settlement<\/a>, campus leaders agreed to adopt procedures protecting Adams from renewed retaliation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Adams told The Fix<\/em> that in light of his past experiences, he is not worried about his academic freedom or the pushback this class might receive from some corners of campus. In fact, he added, controversy is one sign of robust intellectual diversity.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m worried if I don\u2019t cause controversy,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m extremely worried about that. A lack of controversy on college campuses is a sign of sickness and intellectual atrophy.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
