But the ways we maintain them risk hurting the environment and contributing to climate change.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What? The article then goes on to provide a list of sources you can consult to show how evil your lawn is. Good grief.<\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>More Lawn Coverage from the Times<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"css-1xx6m9o ez3869y0\">\n<li class=\"css-o74qhc eoqvrfo0\">\n<p class=\"css-15hwz5e evys1bk0\"><strong>The Times\u2019 \u201cClimate Fwd:\u201d newsletter <a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/04\/10\/climate\/climate-newsletter-lawns.html\">published some tips<\/a> on how to lessen your lawn care\u2019s environmental impact.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"css-o74qhc eoqvrfo0\">\n<p class=\"css-15hwz5e evys1bk0\"><strong>Our Real Estate columnist Ronda Kaysen <a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/04\/26\/realestate\/lawn-mowing-gardening.html\">explained<\/a> why she\u2019s done mowing her lawn.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"css-o74qhc eoqvrfo0\">\n<p class=\"css-15hwz5e evys1bk0\"><strong>If you do mow your lawn, here\u2019s a way <a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/05\/17\/well\/mind\/how-to-be-mindful-mowing-the-lawn.html\">to practice meditation<\/a> as you go.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"css-o74qhc eoqvrfo0\">\n<p class=\"css-15hwz5e evys1bk0\"><strong>Finally, as mentioned in the video, <a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/nyti.ms\/33grO9m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here\u2019s The Times\u2019 coverage<\/a> of former President Theodore Roosevelt mowing his lawn in 1914.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The implication here is that mowing your lawn is the problem. I suspect that the article also cites some of the lawn products people use to control weeds that are considered a problem.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s talk about the good things a lawn provides&#8211;a place for the family to play. A well-maintained lawn is less likely to be a home for animals that are harmful to people. In the 1970&#8217;s there was a lot of concern about the &#8216;greenhouse effect.&#8217; The basic theory was that because we have paved so many areas of the world, we were overheating the planet.
