Paul Manafort is 70 years old and not in good health. Rikers Island is known as one of the roughest prisons in America.<\/p>\n<p>Today <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/manafort-transferred-to-ny-federal-prison-as-he-awaits-trial-on-state-charges?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A%20foxnews%2Fpolitics%20%28Internal%20-%20Politics%20-%20Text%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fox News<\/a> reported that Paul Manafort was transferred to a federal prison in New York City late Monday ahead of his pending state court trial &#8212; but only after the Justice Department rejected a local district attorney\u2019s widely criticized bid to move him to the notorious<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/graphic-video-new-yorks-rikers-island-guard-reportedly-gets-pummeled-by-inmate-no-one-helps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Rikers\u00a0Island <\/a>prison complex. There was never any reason to put him in Rikers Island other than to further mistreat him.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\" style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Manafort was instead transferred to the New York Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC), a federal detention facility located in Manhattan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>MCC houses many inmates awaiting trial or sentencing. Among the current inmates are terror suspect\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/six-terror-linked-foreigners-entered-us-via-diversity-lottery-says-trump-administration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sayfullo Saipov<\/a>, who allegedly ran down pedestrians with a truck in New York on Oct. 31, 2017, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/suspect-arrested-in-florida-in-connection-with-suspicious-packages-sent-to-democrats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cesar Sayoc, <\/a>the man who allegedly sent package bombs to prominent Democrats. Joaquin Guzman, the notorious drug lord known as \u201cEl Chapo,\u201d is reportedly being held at the facility.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Manafort\u2019s transfer\u00a0came after Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen rejected Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr.\u2019s attempt to re-locate Manafort to Rikers Island.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>A senior Justice Department official told Fox News that Manafort\u2019s attorneys contacted the Bureau of Prisons and \u201craised concerns about his transfer to state custody related to his health and personal safety.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is nice to see that someone in the Justice Department prevented the further miscarriage of justice regarding Mr. Manafort.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On June 5, I posted an article about the expected transfer of Paul Manafort to Rikers Island prison.
