Toxic pollutants like lead, sulfur dioxide, and carbon monoxide are now nearly nonexistent in our air. Ozone is down dramatically. In fact, our standards are among the <a href=\"https:\/\/ehjournal.biomedcentral.com\/track\/pdf\/10.1186\/s12940-016-0170-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/ehjournal.biomedcentral.com\/track\/pdf\/10.1186\/s12940-016-0170-8&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1555770185495000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGr6A7PX0rZIJhOXH5Sdgk-V-prAg\">strictest in the world<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>These <a href=\"https:\/\/gispub.epa.gov\/air\/trendsreport\/2018\/#growth_w_cleaner_air\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/gispub.epa.gov\/air\/trendsreport\/2018\/%23growth_w_cleaner_air&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1555770185495000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEd1rgVBiAEkG3c2LY5g-G3xGkBjw\">radical air quality gains<\/a> occurred at the same time our population, energy consumption, vehicle miles traveled, and gross domestic product also grew dramatically.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Economic growth does not have to be crippled in order to create a clean environment&#8211;in fact, economic growth can be used as an engine to promote a clean environment.<\/p>\n<p>The article explains:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Take the catalytic converter, which turns toxic exhaust into harmless gases, like water vapor, by catalyzing a chemical reaction. It was perfected for use in gasoline engines in the 1950s by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acs.org\/content\/acs\/en\/education\/whatischemistry\/landmarks\/houdry.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.acs.org\/content\/acs\/en\/education\/whatischemistry\/landmarks\/houdry.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1555770185495000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE6ehvcH0zEMLjo_43IS8totcuong\">Eugene Houdry<\/a>, a French scientist who became a U.S. citizen in 1942, and was popularized in the 1970s as an efficient way to meet the Clean Air Act standards.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>According to the EPA, which calls the catalytic converter \u201cone of the greatest environmental inventions of all time,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/transportation-air-pollution-and-climate-change\/accomplishments-and-success-air-pollution-transportation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/transportation-air-pollution-and-climate-change\/accomplishments-and-success-air-pollution-transportation&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1555770185495000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEo8JmAqgEsxWm3yrtC_4vg74bFAA\">modern cars, SUVs, trucks, and buses are 98-99% cleaner now than they were 50 years ago<\/a>. Tailpipe pollutants have nearly been eliminated, meaning our cities are no longer stifled by smog. We\u2019re free to take advantage of the independence, mobility, and economic opportunity personal vehicles offer without sacrificing environmental quality.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>That\u2019s good old American ingenuity at work. It continues to work today in technologies like baghouse dust collectors that eliminate pollution from commercial plants and renewable natural gas generation from methane captured from landfills or wastewater treatment plants. The limitless potential of the free market and innovation, not government mandates and taxes, have driven both our economy and environment to dramatic success.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>All this is made possible by access to abundant, reliable, and affordable energy. Our energy resources have the power to improve our quality of life, power our economies, and lift people out of poverty both at home and abroad, all while improving the environment. Nothing is more powerful to drive human flourishing than energy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t have to ruin the American economy to prevent being wiped out in twelve years.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who believes that the radical agenda of the environmentalists is actually about the environment needs to consider the following quote from an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investors.com\/politics\/editorials\/another-climate-alarmist-admits-real-motive-behind-warming-scare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Investor&#8217;s Business Daily<\/a> article of March 29, 2016:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8230;listen to the words of former <a href=\"http:\/\/wattsupwiththat.com\/2010\/11\/18\/ipcc-official-%E2%80%9Cclimate-policy-is-redistributing-the-worlds-wealth%E2%80%9D\/\">United Nations climate official\u00a0Ottmar Edenhofer<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>&#8220;One has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is environmental policy.
