Oddly enough, when you look at the consequences of the policies of the Green New Deal, they have a lot in common with ideas espoused by the United Nations.<\/p>\n<p>The motives of both are somewhat questionable.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2016, I posted an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=27923\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a> with the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong> &#8230;Then listen to the words of former\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wattsupwiththat.com\/2010\/11\/18\/ipcc-official-%E2%80%9Cclimate-policy-is-redistributing-the-worlds-wealth%E2%80%9D\/\">United Nations climate official\u00a0Ottmar Edenhofer<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cOne has to free oneself from the illusion that international climate policy is <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Environmental policy\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Environmental_policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">environmental policy<\/a>. This has almost nothing to do with the environmental policy anymore, with problems such as deforestation or the ozone hole,\u201d said Edenhofer, who\u00a0co-chaired the U.N.\u2019s <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener\">Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change<\/a> working group on <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Climate change mitigation\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Climate_change_mitigation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">Mitigation of Climate Change<\/a> from 2008 to 2015.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>So what is the goal of environmental policy?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cWe redistribute de facto the world\u2019s wealth by climate policy,\u201d said\u00a0Edenhofer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>For those who want to believe that maybe Edenhofer just misspoke and doesn\u2019t really mean that, consider that a little more than five years ago he also said that \u201cthe next world climate summit in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Canc\u00fan\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=21.1605555556,-86.8475&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=21.1605555556,-86.8475 (Canc%C3%BAn)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">Cancun<\/a> is actually an economy summit during which the distribution of the world\u2019s resources will be negotiated.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Mad as they are, Edenhofer\u2019s comments are nevertheless consistent with other alarmists who have spilled the movement\u2019s dirty secret. Last year, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Christiana Figueres\" href=\"http:\/\/figueresonline.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener\">Christiana Figueres<\/a>, executive secretary of U.N.\u2019s <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_Nations_Framework_Convention_on_Climate_Change\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">Framework Convention on Climate Change<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.investors.com\/politics\/editorials\/climate-change-scare-tool-to-destroy-capitalism\/\">made a similar statement<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cThis is the first time in the history of mankind that we are setting ourselves the task of intentionally, within a defined period of time, to change the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years, since the Industrial Revolution,\u201d she said in anticipation of last year\u2019s Paris climate summit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cThis is probably the most difficult task we have ever given ourselves, which is to intentionally transform the economic development model for the first time in human history.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s compare that to the Green New Deal.<\/p>\n<p>Investor&#8217;s Business Daily reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Reading the Green New Deal (GND) plan, put out Thursday by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey, one is tempted to think it&#8217;s not real, just a joke from the satirical &#8220;The Onion.&#8221; The individual planks in the plan, individually and collectively, sound like the rantings of someone who should be institutionalized, not like a rational political plan to solve a real problem.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Let&#8217;s begin with what <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.documentcloud.org\/documents\/5729035\/Green-New-Deal-FAQ.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the plan promises<\/a>: &#8220;a massive transformation of our society with clear goals and a timeline.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>That&#8217;s a sweeping, explicit pledge of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investors.com\/politics\/editorials\/millennials-socialism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">radical socialist change<\/a>. And that&#8217;s\u00a0 not all. It offers &#8220;a 10-year plan to mobilize every aspect of American society at a scale not seen since World War 2 to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and create economic prosperity for all.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The editorial at Investor&#8217;s Business Daily concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8220;The so-called Green New Deal resolution presented today by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., is <a href=\"https:\/\/cei.org\/content\/so-called-green-new-deal-costs-would-be-stupendous-implementation-catastrophic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Back-to-the-Dark Ages Manifesto<\/a>,&#8221; said Myron Ebell, director of the Competitive Enterprise Institute&#8217;s Center for Energy and Environment. &#8220;It calls for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in ten years, &#8216;upgrading all existing buildings&#8217;, and replacing our vehicle fleet with electric cars and more mass transit. And turning our energy economy upside down must be accomplished while ending historic income inequities and oppression of disadvantaged groups. Needless to say, the costs would be stupendous, and the damage done by its policies would be catastrophic.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>We&#8217;re grateful that President Trump threw down the gantlet against socialism during his Tuesday night State of the Union address. As he said, &#8220;America will never be a Socialist country.&#8221; And he drove that point home by adding: &#8220;We were born free and we will stay free.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Scourge Of Socialism<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>We hope he&#8217;s right, and America&#8217;s declining education system and the increasingly far-left mainstream media have&#8217;t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investors.com\/politics\/editorials\/socialisms-future-venezuela-south-africa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made socialism a palatable choice<\/a> against the extraordinary success of\u00a0 the free market. Socialism is among humanity&#8217;s worst ideas and it has failed everywhere\u00a0\u2014 <em>everywhere<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 it has been tried.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Those who don&#8217;t think the socialist disaster of Venezuela can happen here are sadly\u00a0\u2014 tragically\u00a0\u2014 mistaken.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>It should never be tried again, anywhere, but especially not here.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>They idea that a country can prosper by guaranteeing everyone a comfortable standard of living whether they choose to work or not goes against human nature. Prosperity comes from achievement, and achievement is generally spurred on by the rewards it receives. If hard work is not rewarded, there will be no great achievements.
