New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a bill Tuesday night, expanding abortion access and codifying a woman\u2019s right to abort under state law.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cuomo, a Democrat, signed the\u00a0Reproductive Health Act<\/a>\u00a0on the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade,\u00a0making good on his promise to add abortion protections to the state constitution,\u00a0according to the New York Post<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Roe v. Wade gave women the constitutional right to an abortion under the 14th Amendment on Jan. 22, 1973. The ruling extended the right to abort up to the point of fetal \u201cviability,\u201d a slippery term that continues to foster debate as neonatal care advances.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bill codified a woman\u2019s right to abort under state law and removes abortion from New York\u2019s criminal code.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The bill will also allow women to have abortions after 24 weeks in cases where \u201cthere is an absence of fetal viability, or at any time when necessary to protect a patient\u2019s life or health,\u201d according to the legislation. Nurse practitioners, physicians\u2019 assistants and qualified health care professionals can provide abortions under the legislation.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, CNS News<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n

Last Thursday, Jan. 17, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals stated that undercover video footage filmed by the Center for Medical Progress (CMP), which showed Planned Parenthood employees discussing the sale of tissue from aborted fetuses, was \u201cauthentic\u201d and \u201cnot deceptively edited.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The federal appeals court also vacated an injunction by a district court, which had barred the Texas Health and Human Services Commission\u2019s Office of Inspector General (OIG) from terminating Medicaid provider agreements with Planned Parenthood affiliates throughout Texas. The federal appeals court sent the case back to the district court.<\/strong><\/p>\n

…In 2015, the CMP, a pro-life organization, released several hours of undercover video footage<\/a> that showed employees and doctors from various Planned Parenthood affiliates discussing potential research partnerships with individuals who expressed interest in obtaining body parts of fetuses aborted during the second trimester of pregnancy and paying a handling and shipping fee for those parts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After the footage was released, the OIG sent Planned Parenthood affiliates a notice<\/a> of termination of their Medicaid agreements. The OIG argued that the affiliates had violated \u201caccepted medical standards, as reflected in federal and state law,\u201d and were no longer \u201cqualified to provide medical services in a professionally competent, safe, legal and ethical manner.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

CMP founder David Daleiden wrote<\/a> that the court\u2019s decision \u201cvindicated\u201d the CMP\u2019s \u201ccitizen journalism work\u201d by \u201cdebunking Planned Parenthood\u2019s smear that the videos were \u2018heavily edited\u2019 or \u2018doctored.\u2019\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cNow, it is time for the U.S. Department of Justice to do its job and hold Planned Parenthood accountable to the law,\u201d Daleiden added.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Since the videos were released in 2015, Planned Parenthood has claimed CMP\u2019s footage was heavily<\/a> and deceptively<\/a> edited. Many mainstream news outlets<\/a> have reported<\/a> that the footage was altered<\/a> or distorted<\/a>, using, as the basis for these claims, a Fusion GPS report<\/a> that was commissioned and funded by Planned Parenthood.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It’s amazing how the same names keep coming up.<\/p>\n

In April 2016, Life News<\/a> reported:<\/p>\n

On average, Planned Parenthood receives approximately $500 million a year in taxpayer funds, as a GAO report indicated last year<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Theoretically, this money does not pay for abortions.<\/p>\n

Taxpayer-funded abortion corporation Planned Parenthood has\u00a0announced<\/a> its political arms are joining other \u201cprogressive\u201d groups to invest an \u201cunprecedented\u201d $30 million to influence who is elected to key state and federal offices in the 2018 midterm elections.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Does anyone else object to the idea that an organization that takes money from the federal government contributes to political campaigns?<\/p>\n
