Officers searched the car after becoming suspicious, finding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kveo.com\/news\/local-news\/traffic-stop-turns-into-huge-drug-bust-for-sheriff-s-department\/1287680893\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">roughly 49 pounds of cocaine<\/a> stashed inside a golf bag and an ice cooler, reports KVEO.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Police arrested driver\u00a0Juan Antonio\u00a0Montes Cornejo, a Mexican national, who faces <a href=\"https:\/\/valleycentral.com\/news\/local\/sheriffs-office-mexican-man-caught-with-50-pounds-of-cocaine-in-harlingen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">narcotics trafficking charges<\/a> that could put him in prison for up to 99 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8230;Large quantities of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2018\/04\/27\/chinese-man-fentanyl-across-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">narcotics continue to infiltrate the U.S.<\/a>\u00a0due to the relentless efforts of traffickers, however, authorities are stepping up efforts to interdict the dangerous substances, particularly opioids.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Opioid\u00a0seizures by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/news\/local\/govt-and-politics\/border-patrol-agents-seizure-of-opioids-on-the-rise-mccaskill\/article_a6137280-701e-5cac-8803-81d9ac770dd9.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nearly doubled<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0579 pounds in 2013 to 1,135 pounds in 2017,\u00a0a\u00a0recent report from Democratic Missouri\u00a0Sen. Claire McCaskill shows.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I wonder how this cocaine got through the border. That might be something to look at.
