{"id":33714,"date":"2018-06-24T12:53:43","date_gmt":"2018-06-24T16:53:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=33714"},"modified":"2018-06-24T12:53:43","modified_gmt":"2018-06-24T16:53:43","slug":"do-they-really-think-we-are-that-stupid","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=33714","title":{"rendered":"Do They Really Think We Are That Stupid?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investors.com\/politics\/editorials\/u-n-poverty-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Investor&#8217;s Business Daily<\/a> posted an editorial about poverty in America.<\/p>\n<p>The editorial states:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Amid all the immigration hoo-ha, maybe you missed the uncritical mainstream media reports of a United Nations study faulting President Trump for poverty in America. Turns out, it&#8217;s just more fake news.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>An uncritical Reuters headline says it all: &#8220;America&#8217;s poor becoming more destitute under Trump: U.N. expert&#8221;. The Hill&#8217;s equally blase headline: &#8220;UN poverty official: Trump exacerbating inequality.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The <a href=\"http:\/\/undocs.org\/A\/HRC\/38\/33\/ADD.1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 really a first-person narrative \u2014 released earlier this month, ripped President Trump for his &#8220;contempt&#8221; and &#8220;hatred of the poor.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The report cited 18.5 million Americans who live in extreme policy, and massive U.S. defense spending at the expense of social programs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Only one problem: As Chuck DeVore, vice president of the Texas Public Policy Foundation, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/2018\/06\/20\/un-poverty-report-blasting-trump-us-for-hatred-for-poor-uses-data-from-last-year-obama-s-presidency.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">points out<\/a>, the data on which the study was based came from <em>2016<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whoops.<\/p>\n<p>The editorial continues:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Worse, the U.N. report uses misleading and &#8220;wildly inaccurate&#8221; Census data to bolster its claims of 18.5 million living in the U.S. under extreme poverty. The real level, as a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nber.org\/digest\/feb16\/w21676.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">separate study reveals<\/a>, is &#8220;less than half that.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>In fact, unemployment at 3.8% is a 29-year low. Food stamp recipients in 2017 numbered 42.1 million, 2 million below Obama&#8217;s last year and the lowest since 2010.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Somehow I don&#8217;t think the definition of poverty in America is the same as the definition of poverty in some other areas of the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, Investor&#8217;s Business Daily posted an editorial about poverty in America.
