{"id":32728,"date":"2018-03-01T20:09:10","date_gmt":"2018-03-02T01:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=32728"},"modified":"2018-03-01T20:09:10","modified_gmt":"2018-03-02T01:09:10","slug":"leadership-matters-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=32728","title":{"rendered":"Leadership Matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-position=\"4\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-03-01\/u-s-real-disposable-incomes-up-most-in-five-years-on-tax-cuts\">Bloomberg<\/a> is reporting today that real <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Disposable and discretionary income\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Disposable_and_discretionary_income\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">disposable income<\/a>, or earnings adjusted for <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Tax\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">taxes<\/a> and inflation, advanced 0.6 <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Percentage\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Percentage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">percent<\/a> from the prior month, the biggest gain since April 2015, according to a <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Department of Commerce\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8943,-77.0161333333&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8943,-77.0161333333 (United%20States%20Department%20of%20Commerce)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">Commerce Department<\/a> report Thursday. Part of that I suspect is due to the tax cuts, but there are other things that have made this possible.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The data, covering the first month since the tax law was signed in December, reflected a $30 billion increase in one-time bonuses and a $115.5 billion annualized drop in personal taxes, the Commerce Department said. Such boosts to Americans\u2019 wallets, along with a tight <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Labour economics\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Labour_economics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">labor market<\/a>, will sustain spending. Those items, plus rising prices, are likely to keep Fed <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Policy\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">policy makers<\/a> on track for at least three interest-rate increases this year, including one that\u2019s widely expected later in March.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u00a0A separate <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Department of Labor\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8925361111,-77.0144277778&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8925361111,-77.0144277778 (United%20States%20Department%20of%20Labor)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">Labor Department<\/a> report on Thursday showed weekly filings for <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Unemployment benefits\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Unemployment_benefits\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">unemployment benefits<\/a> fell to the lowest level since 1969.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u00a0The reduction in taxes helped boost the saving rate to 3.2 percent, the highest since August, from 2.5 percent in December, which was the lowest since 2007.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most Americans pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes than what Medieval serfs paid the lord of the manor to farm their land.<\/p>\n<p>The article concludes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The Fed\u2019s preferred price gauge &#8212; tied to consumption &#8212; rose 0.4 percent in January from the previous month and was up 1.7 percent from a year earlier. Inflation has mostly missed the central bank\u2019s 2 percent target since 2012, though policy makers expect it to rise toward the goal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Excluding food and energy, so-called core prices rose 0.3 percent, matching the median estimate. The core index, which Fed officials see as a better indicator of underlying price pressures, was up 1.5 percent from January 2017, the same annual gain as the prior three months.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Adjusted for inflation, personal spending declined 0.1 percent in January from the prior month, the first decrease in a year. The weakness reflected a 1.6 percent slump in outlays for durable goods as auto sales cooled.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are a number of reasons for the improvement of the economy&#8211;ending regulations that made it very difficult to start or run a business, putting more money in Americans&#8217; pockets by lowering the individual tax burden, ending the financial penalties that were included in ObamaCare, lowering corporate tax rates to make American more competitive worldwide as a place to locate a business, and simply making it clear that America now welcomes businesses and is prepared to encourage entrepreneurship.
