{"id":32704,"date":"2018-02-26T20:06:33","date_gmt":"2018-02-27T01:06:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=32704"},"modified":"2018-02-26T20:06:33","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T01:06:33","slug":"we-might-want-to-deal-with-this-before-november","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=32704","title":{"rendered":"We Might Want To Deal With This Before November"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2018\/feb\/26\/lawsuit-100000-noncitizens-registered-vote-pa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Washington Times<\/a> posted an article today stating that <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"The Public Interest\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Public_Interest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">The Public Interest<\/a> Legal Foundation has identified more than 100,000 noncitizens who are <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Voter registration\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Voter_registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">registered to vote<\/a> in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Pennsylvania\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=41.0,-77.5&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=41.0,-77.5 (Pennsylvania)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">Pennsylvania<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>More than 100,000 noncitizens are registered to vote in Pennsylvania alone, according to testimony submitted Monday in a <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Lawsuit\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lawsuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">lawsuit<\/a> demanding the state come clean about the extent of its problems.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The Public Interest Legal Foundation, which has identified similar noncitizen <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Voting\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Voting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">voting<\/a> problems in studies of Virginia and <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"New Jersey\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=40.0,-74.5&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=40.0,-74.5 (New%20Jersey)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">New Jersey<\/a>, said Pennsylvania officials have admitted noncitizens have been registering and voting in the state \u201cfor decades.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>But state officials have stonewalled PILF requests for access to the data that could expose the problem, the group says in a lawsuit filed in federal court in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Harrisburg, Pennsylvania\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=40.2697222222,-76.8755555556&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=40.2697222222,-76.8755555556 (Harrisburg%2C%20Pennsylvania)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">Harrisburg<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cFor months, Pennsylvania bureaucrats have concealed facts about noncitizens registering and voting \u2014 that ends today,\u201d PILF President and <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"General counsel\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/General_counsel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">General Counsel<\/a> <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"J. Christian Adams\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/J._Christian_Adams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">J. Christian Adams<\/a> said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>He said Pennsylvania had already admitted to a \u201cglitch\u201d dating back to the 1990s that had allowed noncitizens applying to renew driver\u2019s licenses to be offered the chance to register to vote. Mr. Adams said he now wants to find out how bad the problem is overall.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Pennsylvania officials wouldn\u2019t respond to the lawsuit, nor to the 100,000 noncitizen number.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article further reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The PILF did manage to obtain some records from county officials and filed some of their findings in the new court case.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>One man, Felipe Rojas-Orta, canceled his registration last year, filing a handwritten note saying he was not a citizen. He had, however, registered as a Democrat and voted in three separate elections, including most recently 2016, the year of the presidential race.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Another woman had her registration canceled in 2006 as a noncitizen, yet re-registered to vote twice \u2014 and cast ballots in some elections. That woman is still active in the system, the lawsuit says.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The federal \u201cmotor-voter\u201d law requires states to make voter registration available at motor vehicle bureaus, but also pushes states to try to keep their voter roles clean. Under the law, private parties can sue to press states to perform the cleansing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is time to end &#8220;motor-voter.&#8221; States need to confirm the citizenship of people who are registering to vote. Noncitizens voting in our elections is a much more serious problem than any interference by foreign governments. It is also time for states to purge their voting records of dead people. There was a situation locally where a person checked the voter rolls and found out that there were three people claiming her home as residence in order to vote that did not live there. It was very difficult to get those people removed from the voting rolls.
