{"id":32570,"date":"2018-02-06T12:09:06","date_gmt":"2018-02-06T17:09:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=32570"},"modified":"2018-02-06T12:09:06","modified_gmt":"2018-02-06T17:09:06","slug":"do-we-need-a-warning-about-warnings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=32570","title":{"rendered":"Do We Need A Warning About Warnings?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/national-weather-service-sends-out-false-tsunami-warning-east-coast-n845046\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a> posted a story today which included the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Some residents along the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"East Coast of the United States\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/East_Coast_of_the_United_States\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">East Coast<\/a> received a false tsunami warning on Tuesday morning after a private company sent out an alert following a monthly test by the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"National Weather Service\" href=\"http:\/\/www.weather.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener\">National Weather Service<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>A tweet from the National Weather Service (NWS) in <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Charleston, South Carolina\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charleston%2C_South_Carolina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">Charleston, South Carolina<\/a>, said the alert was sent around 8:30 a.m. ET.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8220;We have been notified that some users received this test message as an actual Tsunami Warning,&#8221; the NWS tweeted, adding that a tsunami warning was &#8220;not in effect.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8230;In a statement to NBC News, the NWS said that a routine test was sent out and that the agency is investigating why it was communicated as an actual tsunami.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8220;The test message was released by at least one private sector company as an official Tsunami Warning, resulting in widespread reports of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Tsunami warning system\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tsunami_warning_system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">tsunami warnings<\/a> received via phones and other media across the East Coast, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Gulf of Mexico\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=25.0,-90.0&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=25.0,-90.0 (Gulf%20of%20Mexico)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">Gulf of Mexico<\/a>, and the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Caribbean\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=14.5255555556,-75.8183333333&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=14.5255555556,-75.8183333333 (Caribbean)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">Caribbean<\/a>.
