Last night Breitbart<\/a> did a fact check on one point of Joseph Kennedy<\/a>‘s speech that I thought was rather interesting.<\/p>\n

Here is the comment:<\/p>\n

Rep. Joe Kennedy III<\/a> (D-MA<\/a>) claimed the host-city of his response to President Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s State of the Union address<\/a>, Fall River, Massachusetts<\/a> was \u201cbuilt by immigrants.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Fact-Check: MOSTLY FALSE<\/strong><\/p>\n

What is now Fall River was first established in the 1600s by English settlers<\/a> who were not \u201cimmigrants\u201d but colonists. A native-born family, the Bordens ran a mill in what became the town for generations before and after the American revolution<\/a>. Industrialization began when Col. Joseph Durfee, a native-born Revolutionary War<\/a> hero built the first factory in 1811. Later, at the end of the 19th Century a wave of immigrants swelled the town\u2019s population. Immigrants, however, never made up<\/span><\/a> a majority of the population of Bristol County<\/a>, where Fall River lies, even at their early 20th Century peak.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Democrats are so busy trying to win the votes of people they hope to make citizens, they are misstating history. One might wonder if some of the groups of immigrants coming into this country now are immigrants or colonists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
