Today’s Washington Examiner<\/a> is reporting that the Republicans have held control of the Wisconsin Senate–losing only two seats in the recall election.  Considering the amount of money the unions invested in this election, that is very good news.  There is a recall election of the Democrats in the Senate next week.  None of the Democrats are expected to be recalled, but the Republicans will still maintain control of the Senate.  <\/p>\n

As a result of the policies that Governor Walker instituted, the unemployment rate in Wisconsin has been around 7.4 to 7.6 percent since the beginning of the year.  In June, 9,500 new jobs were added in the state.  The monopoly of the Wisconsin Education Association Trust on health insurance for teachers has been broken and the result is more money to spend on actually educating children. The Kaukauna School Board<\/a> has already stated that changes in the health insurance bargaining will result in smaller class sizes.  Racine County<\/a> has been able to use jail inmates for landscaping that had been neglected due to budget cuts–something the unions had previously prevented them from doing.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend I met someone from Wisconsin who was not happy with the changes that have been made.  I wonder how much of the good news is getting past the media filter in Wisconsin.  Evidently enough voters understood the need to break the union control over their state budget to get the job done.  I hope the trend continues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
