ISIS no longer controls Mosul<\/a>. So what does that mean? On Christmas Eve<\/a>, the Voice of America<\/a> posted an article illustrating one thing that has changed since Mosul was captured by Iraqi forces.<\/p>\n

For the first time in the more than three years since Islamic State militants<\/a> took over vast swaths of Iraq and Syria<\/a>, Iraqi Christians<\/a> have gone to church to celebrate Christmas in Mosul \u2014 a former militant stronghold. Worshipers and Muslim activists say they are hoping the holidays may bring some healing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the time Islamic State militants ruled Mosul, this church was a prison.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Today, worshipers celebrate Christmas here for the first time since Islamic State militants took over the city in 2014, forcing the entire Christian<\/a> population \u2014 about 200,000 people \u2014 to flee.<\/strong><\/p>\n
