As far as investigators can tell, he was never able to do that and collect the money.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p id=\"ext-gen122\" class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8220;I believe, just from examining the public sources, that the FBI offered Christopher Steele $50,000 if he could corroborate the dossier. He either couldn&#8217;t, didn&#8217;t, wouldn&#8217;t, and they didn&#8217;t pay him the money,&#8217; news analyst <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Andrew Napolitano\" href=\"http:\/\/www.judgenap.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener\">Andrew Napolitano<\/a> told <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Stuart Varney\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/varneyco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener twitter\">Stuart Varney<\/a> on\u00a0<a class=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/politics\/2017\/12\/18\/fbi-offered-christopher-steele-50k-to-confirm-trump-dossier-judge-napolitano.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Fox Business<\/a>\u00a0Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Former MI6 agent Steele&#8217;s dossier claims the Russians possess compromising information that could be used to blackmail Trump, and alleges the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Donald Trump presidential campaign, 2016\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donald_Trump_presidential_campaign%2C_2016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">Trump campaign<\/a> colluded with <a id=\"mol-6c554e20-e461-11e7-b116-e511d3bb223c\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/russia\/index.html\">Russia<\/a> during the 2016 election.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Napolitano appears to be basing his claim on an April report from the <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/04\/22\/us\/politics\/james-comey-election.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New York Times<\/a>, which cited two sources claiming that an <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Federal Bureau of Investigation\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.895216,-77.025131&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.895216,-77.025131 (Federal%20Bureau%20of%20Investigation)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">FBI agent<\/a> met Steele in Rome in October of 2016, just weeks before the presidential election.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The agent offered Steele $50,000 if he could get &#8216;solid corroboration of his reports&#8217;, which the FBI ultimately never paid out, the report said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Last week, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein refused to tell the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States House Committee on the Judiciary\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_House_Committee_on_the_Judiciary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener wikipedia\">House Judiciary Committee<\/a> whether the FBI had paid or offered to pay for the dossier.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is further proof that we need to remove the top few layers of personnel at the FBI.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.K. Daily Mail posted an article yesterday (and updated it today) about the FBI offering Christopher Steele (the author of the Trump dossier) $50,000 if he could verify the charges in the dossier.
