The New York Post<\/a> posted an article on September 7 about a Viking<\/a> skeleton that has been discovered.<\/p>\n The article reports:<\/p>\n The remains of a powerful Viking \u2014 long thought to be a man \u2014 was in fact a real-life Xena Warrior Princess<\/a>, a study released Friday reveals.<\/strong><\/p>\n The lady war boss was buried in the mid-10th century along with deadly weapons and two horses, leading archaeologists and historians to assume she was a man, according to the findings\u00a0published in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n Wrong.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s actually a woman, somewhere over the age of 30 and fairly tall, too, measuring around [5 feet 6 inches] tall,\u201d archaeologist Charlotte Hedenstierna-Jonson of Uppsala University<\/a>, who conducted the study, told The Local.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n And she was likely in charge.<\/strong><\/p>\n The article concludes:<\/p>\n The Viking grave was first found and excavated by Swedish archaeologist Hjalmar Stolpe<\/a> in the late 1800s.<\/strong><\/p>\n But a few years ago, osteologist Anna Kjellstr\u00f6m of Stockholm University<\/a> noticed its skeleton had fine cheekbones and feminine hip bones, researches said.<\/strong><\/p>\n They conducted DNA analysis<\/a> and confirmed it was a female.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cThis image of the male warrior in a patriarchal society was reinforced by research traditions and contemporary preconceptions.
