One of the talking points the left is using to say that the Uranium One deal is not a problem is to say that since the uranium is not allowed to leave America, it really doesn&#8217;t matter who owns it. Well, it seems as if that is not the case.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday<a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/national-security\/358339-uranium-one-deal-led-to-some-exports-to-europe-memos-show\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> The Hill <\/a>reported that uranium that can be upgraded for weapons use did leave the country.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cNo uranium produced at either facility may be exported,\u201d the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Nuclear Regulatory Commission\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nrc.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener\">NRC<\/a> declared in a November 2010 press release that announced that <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"ARMZ Uranium Holding\" href=\"http:\/\/www.armz.ru\/eng\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener\">ARMZ<\/a>, a subsidiary of the Russian state-owned <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Rosatom\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rosatom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">Rosatom<\/a>, had been approved to take ownership of the Uranium One mining firm and its American assets.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>A year later, the nuclear regulator repeated the assurance in a letter to Sen. <span class=\"rollover-people\" data-behavior=\"rolloverpeople\"><a class=\"rollover-people-link\" href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/john-barrasso\" data-nid=\"188202\">John Barrasso<\/a><\/span>, a <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Wyoming\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=43.0,-107.5&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=43.0,-107.5 (Wyoming)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">Wyoming<\/a> Republican in whose state Uranium One operated mines.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8230;Yet NRC memos reviewed by The Hill show that it did approve the shipment of yellowcake uranium \u2014 the raw material used to make nuclear fuel and weapons \u2014 from the Russian-owned mines in the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667 (United%20States)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">United States<\/a> to Canada in 2012 through a third party. Later, the Obama administration approved some of that uranium going all the way to Europe, government documents show.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article further reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>NRC officials told The Hill that Uranium One exports flowed from Wyoming to Canada and on to Europe between 2012 and 2014, and the approval involved a process with multiple agencies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Rather than give Rosatom a direct export license \u2014 which would have raised red flags inside a Congress already suspicious of the deal \u2014 the NRC in 2012 authorized an amendment to an existing export license for a Paducah, Ky.-based trucking firm called RSB Logistics Services Inc. to simply add Uranium One to the list of clients whose uranium it could move to Canada.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The license, reviewed by The Hill, is dated March 16, 2012, and it increased the amount of uranium ore concentrate that RSB Logistics could ship to the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Cameco\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cameco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener\">Cameco Corp.<\/a> plant in Ontario from 7,500,000 kilograms to 12,000,000 kilograms and added Uranium One to the \u201cother parties to <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Export\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Export\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">Export<\/a>.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The move escaped notice in Congress.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please follow the link above to The Hill to read the entire article.
