{"id":31287,"date":"2017-07-30T19:15:13","date_gmt":"2017-07-30T23:15:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=31287"},"modified":"2017-07-30T19:15:13","modified_gmt":"2017-07-30T23:15:13","slug":"remembering-the-purpose-of-the-military","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=31287","title":{"rendered":"Remembering The Purpose Of The Military"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday, <a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/07\/25\/mattis-orders-full-review-of-any-military-training-that-has-nothing-to-do-with-warfighting\/?utm_source=site-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Daily Caller<\/a> posted an article about a <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Military policy\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Military_policy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">military policy<\/a> recently ordered by <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Secretary of Defense\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Secretary_of_Defense\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">Secretary of Defense<\/a> <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"James Mattis\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James_Mattis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">James Mattis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Secretary of Defense James Mattis has ordered a full review of any <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Military education and training\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Military_education_and_training\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">military\u00a0training<\/a> not directly relevant to\u00a0<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Soldier\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Soldier\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">warfighting<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Mattis told the services to conduct a review of the \u201crequirements for mandatory force training that does not directly support core tasks,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2017\/07\/25\/mattis-get-unnecessary-training-off-warfighters-backs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to a Friday memo obtained by Military Times<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>In other words, Mattis wants a full examination of all the hours of burdensome, irrelevant training <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Armed Forces\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Armed_Forces\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">service members<\/a> have to undergo before deployment.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cI want to verify that our military policies also support and enhance warfighting readiness and force lethality,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2017\/07\/25\/mattis-get-unnecessary-training-off-warfighters-backs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mattis said<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Mattis also asked for a review into what should be done about permanently non-deployable service members.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We are sending our soldiers into war. They need to have the best military training possible, but we need to remember that there are only so many bits of information that a brain can handle. It is time to reconsider our priorities in order to protect our <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"National security\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/National_security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">national security<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The recommendations resulting from the review of current training are due by Dec. 1, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The military is not a social experiment. Any policy or training that interferes with the readiness or cohesiveness of a military unit needs to end quickly.
