The article is about a recent move by the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Politics of Mexico\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Politics_of_Mexico\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">Mexican government<\/a> to end state control of the energy industry in Mexico. The decision to deregulate has paid off.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-para-count=\"284\" data-total-count=\"515\"><strong>The government began <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/07\/16\/business\/international\/mexico-auctions-oil-blocks-in-attempt-to-increase-production.html\">auctioning off rights<\/a> two years ago to drill in parts of the Gulf of Mexico. On Tuesday, an international consortium of energy companies said they had discovered a large <a class=\"meta-classifier\" title=\"More articles about oil.\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/news\/business\/energy-environment\/oil-petroleum-and-gasoline\/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier\">oil<\/a> field, and another firm said it had discovered more oil than expected in a separate area.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-para-count=\"357\" data-total-count=\"872\"><strong>The overhaul of the Mexican <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Petroleum industry\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Petroleum_industry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">oil and gas sector<\/a> in recent years eventually ended the state energy company\u2019s seven-decade domestic monopoly on exploration and production. The aim was to arrest years of declining <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Extraction of petroleum\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Extraction_of_petroleum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">oil output<\/a>, blamed on a slow-moving public sector that lacked the technology to exploit opportunities in deep-sea drilling, or shale oil and gas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-para-count=\"157\" data-total-count=\"1029\"><strong>The two announcements on Tuesday appeared to suggest that Mexico\u2019s strategy, which was met with criticism when it was first pushed through, was succeeding.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p id=\"story-continues-1\" class=\"story-body-text story-content\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\" data-para-count=\"423\" data-total-count=\"1452\"><strong>The consortium, made up of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Premier Oil\" href=\"http:\/\/www.premier-oil.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener\">Premier Oil<\/a> of Britain, as well as Talos Energy of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Texas\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=31.0,-100.0&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=31.0,-100.0 (Texas)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">Texas<\/a> and the Mexican company Sierra Oil and Gas, said that it had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.talosenergyllc.com\/news\/Talos-Energy-LLC-Announces-Historic-Oil-Discovery-Offshore-Mexico\">discovered a field<\/a> containing more than one billion barrels of oil in shallow water 40 miles off the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Mexico\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=19.4333333333,-99.1333333333&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=19.4333333333,-99.1333333333 (Mexico)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener\">Mexican coast<\/a>. <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Riverstone Holdings\" href=\"http:\/\/www.riverstonellc.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener\">Riverstone Holdings<\/a>, an American <a class=\"meta-classifier\" title=\"More articles about private equity.\" href=\"http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/reference\/timestopics\/subjects\/p\/private_equity\/index.html?inline=nyt-classifier\">private equity<\/a> firm that specializes in energy investments, owns 45 percent of Talos Energy and 43 percent of Sierra Oil and Gas.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-para-count=\"423\" data-total-count=\"1452\">It&#8217;s amazing what can be accomplished when there is an incentive to accomplish it!<\/p>\n<p data-para-count=\"423\" data-total-count=\"1452\">There are two things to note here&#8211;like it or not, fossil fuel is the basis of the current world economy, and an improving <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Economy of Mexico\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Economy_of_Mexico\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener\">Mexican economy<\/a> may help slow down the pace of illegal immigrants coming to America from Mexico. This is a win-win situation for Mexico and for America.
