Shakespeare in the Park in the past has done wonderful things–Pirates of Penzance was absolutely awesome. Unfortunately they have forgotten that their purpose is entertainment.<\/p>\n Mediate reports:<\/p>\n Shakespeare in the Park, an annual summer program by The Public Theater<\/a> that puts on plays by William Shakespeare<\/a><\/em> in Central Park, kicked off May 23 with a performance of Julius Caesar<\/a><\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n But this rendition\u00a0of Shakespeare\u2019s tragedy comes with a twist \u2014 Caesar is played by a character that bears a striking resemblance to President Donald Trump<\/a><\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n …”The actor playing Caesar was dressed in a business suit, with a royal blue tie, hanging a couple inches below the belt line, with reddish-blonde hair \u2014 just like Trump,\u201d\u00a0Sheaffer (Laura Sheaffer, a sales manager at Salem Media)<\/a> told Mediaite.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cI always go to Shakespeare in the park, but I wasn\u2019t expecting to see this,\u201d Sheaffer said, adding that the script was\u00a0mostly loyal to the\u00a0original Shakespeare, and that there was no explicit reference to the American president<\/a>, though the intention was \u201cblatantly obvious.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n In the scene before Caesar is assassinated, his wife Calpurnia begs him to stay away from the Senate<\/a>, claiming she is having nightmares of his murder. According to Sheaffer, the actress playing Calpurnia bore\u00a0a resemblance to first lady\u00a0Melania Trump<\/a> \u2014 replete with\u00a0a \u201cSlavic accent.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Shaeffer also noted that in the scene, the actor playing In the next scene the Trumpian Caesar is\u00a0attacked by the Senators and stabbed to death as an American flag hovers\u00a0overhead, according to Shaeffer. \u201cThey had the full murder scene onstage, and blood was spewing everywhere out of his body.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n This isn’t funny, it’s not entertainment, and it is not suitable for any audience.
