There are also other consequences.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday <a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/05\/06\/offshore-wind-power-will-absolutely-cost-jobs-of-us-fishermen\/\">The Daily Caller<\/a> posted an article about the impact of a <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Wind farm\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=-33.7544444444,25.675&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=-33.7544444444,25.675 (Wind%20farm)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener noreferrer\">wind farm<\/a> off the coast of Block Island.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Fishing industry\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fishing_industry\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">fishing industry<\/a> is worried the first <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Offshore wind power\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Offshore_wind_power\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">offshore wind farm<\/a> to come online in the U.S. will ruin their way of life and kill jobs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>An <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"List of offshore wind farms\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=51.6438888889,1.55361111111&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=51.6438888889,1.55361111111 (List%20of%20offshore%20wind%20farms)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener noreferrer\">offshore wind turbine<\/a> three miles off the coast of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Block Island\" href=\"http:\/\/www.new-shoreham.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Block Island, Rhode Island<\/a>, will kill large numbers of fish and potentially drive\u00a0hundreds of small coastal enterprises out of business, according to a fishing industry representative. Fishermen fear offshore wind turbines will continue to pop up along <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"East Coast of the United States\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/East_Coast_of_the_United_States\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">Atlantic Coast<\/a>, eventually make it impossible to be a commercial fisherman.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cThis will absolutely cost jobs in the U.S.,\u201d Bonnie Brady, director of the Long Island Commercial Fishing Association, told The Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cIf <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Governor of New York\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Governor_of_New_York\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia noopener noreferrer\">New York Governor<\/a> [Andrew] Cuomo\u2019s administration gets what it wants from offshore wind that\u2019s thousands of fishing jobs. It\u2019ll rip the coastal communities apart.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article further reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cBlock Island has messed up gill netters and trawlers,\u201d\u00a0Brady said. \u201cThey\u2019re not going to certain areas because its a risk to the\u00a0boat. The five turbines they put in place there are ruining one of the most productive bottoms around.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Estimates from the liberal <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Brookings Institution\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Brookings Institution<\/a> suggest the U.S. fishing industry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/blog\/up-front\/2014\/09\/03\/economic-contributions-of-the-u-s-fishing-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">supports 1.5 million jobs<\/a>\u00a0and generated\u00a0$90 billion annually.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cThese are great jobs,\u201d Brady told TheDCNF. \u201cYou can make a really good living working on a fishery. It is a solidly middle class life and a really good trades-job. We have more growth potential for fishing jobs in the U.S. than anywhere else, but we\u2019re being removed from our fishing grounds because of offshore wind.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There may come a time when ocean-based wind power makes sense, but that time is not now. In addition to the unreliability of the electricity produced by wind and the damage to the fishing industry, the cost of <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Wind Energy\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wikinvest.com\/industry\/Wind_Energy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikinvest noopener noreferrer\">wind-powered<\/a> electricity is about for to six times the cost of conventionally generated electricity. It may also turn out that in our rush to save the environment with <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Sustainable energy\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.0308333333,-7.62277777778&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.0308333333,-7.62277777778 (Sustainable%20energy)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation noopener noreferrer\">green energy<\/a>, we have damaged areas of the environment we chose to overlook because of political fads.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wind energy has its positive traits.
