Well, the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Massachusetts\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=42.3,-71.8&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=42.3,-71.8 (Massachusetts)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Commonwealth of Massachusetts<\/a> has come up with its own idea of how to make using your gun very expensive.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2017\/02\/20\/massachusetts-tries-gun-control-the-old-fashioned-way-higher-taxes\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Daily Caller<\/a> reported yesterday:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>A gun bill in Massachusetts is looking to expand gun restrictions in the state through additional taxes on lawful gun owners.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The<a href=\"https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/Bills\/190\/SD1884\" target=\"_blank\"> legislation<\/a>, sponsored by Democratic state Sen. Cynthia Creem, is one of many she said she has filed every state senate session in order to \u201cto make it harder and harder\u201d to obtain a gun, she told <a href=\"http:\/\/saugus.wickedlocal.com\/news\/20170209\/gun-tax-large-weapons-ban-included-in-new-bill\" target=\"_blank\">Wicked Local Newsbank<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Not only would the bill impose a 4.75 percent surcharge \u201con sales at retail of all ammunition, rifles, shotguns, firearms or parts thereof\u201d on top of the licensing fees, the state\u2019s 6.25 percent <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Sales tax\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sales_tax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">sales tax<\/a> and the 11 percent federal excise tax; it would also require virtually all firearm sales to take place through a licensed dealer, with an additional charge for private gun sales, require gun owners to use fingerprint scanners to deactivate the weapon when the technology becomes available and bans .50 caliber weapons outright with a hefty fine and possible jail time if someone is found in violation of the law.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The money raised by this scheme would go into the Firearms Violence Prevention Trust Fund, which the bill establishes. Wow! Penalize gun owners to create more bureaucracy!<\/p>\n<p>The article further reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Gun activists in the state are outraged by the sweeping legislation, especially since research shows that crime rates either are not affected or increase over time with more gun restrictions, according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/crimeresearch.org\/2013\/12\/murder-and-homicide-rates-before-and-after-gun-bans\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crime Research Prevention Center<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cWhat\u2019s the problem we\u2019re trying to solve?\u201d Jim Wallace, executive director of the Massachusetts Gun Owners Action League, told Wicked Local Newsbank. \u201cIs it political, perceived or real? It seems it\u2019s always been political.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Frustration with the legislation also includes the belief that lawful gun owners seem to be punished for the transgressions of criminals, people who would find an illegal way to obtain a gun no matter what the law says.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Okay. Let&#8217;s look at this a minute. When <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Law\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">law-abiding<\/a> citizens cannot afford guns because the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"State legislature (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/State_legislature_%28United_States%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">State Legislature<\/a> has made it very expensive to buy or own one, do you think criminals will still have guns? This is Massachusetts&#8217; attempt at an end run around the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Second Amendment to the United States Constitution\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Second Amendment<\/a>. The way our government was set up, the states have the right to disregard a law that is made that does not comply with the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Constitution\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Constitution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">U.S. Constitution<\/a>, but what do you do when the state itself is attempting to undermine a freedom guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution?<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I posted an article about the State of Connecticut&#8216;s attempt to make gun ownership very expensive.
