Yesterday The New York Post<\/a> posted an article about a recent statement by Microsoft<\/a> founder Bill Gates<\/a>.<\/p>\n The article reports:<\/p>\n Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft and world\u2019s richest man<\/a>, said in an interview Friday that robots<\/a> that steal human jobs should pay their fair share of taxes<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cRight now, the human worker who does, say, $50,000 worth of work in a factory, that income is taxed and you get income tax<\/a>, Social Security tax<\/a>, all those things,\u201d he said. \u201cIf a robot comes in to do the same thing, you\u2019d think that we\u2019d tax the robot at a similar level.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n How do you tax a robot? If he doesn’t pay his taxes, do you take out his battery?<\/p>\n This is another example of the government interfering in the free market. As some people in the government push to raise the minimum wage, certain businesses will have no choice but to replace human workers with robots.<\/p>\n The article further reports:<\/p>\n Recode<\/a>, citing a McKinsey report<\/a>, said that 50 percent of jobs performed by humans are vulnerable to robots, which could result in the loss of about $2.7 trillion in the U.S. alone.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cExactly how you\u2019d do it, measure it, you know, it\u2019s interesting for people to start talking about now,\u201d Gates said. \u201cSome of it can come on the profits that are generated by the labor-saving efficiency there. Some of it can come directly in some type of robot tax. I don\u2019t think the robot companies are going to be outraged that there might be a tax.
