{"id":3014,"date":"2011-05-25T15:37:33","date_gmt":"2011-05-25T15:37:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=3014"},"modified":"2011-05-25T15:37:33","modified_gmt":"2011-05-25T15:37:33","slug":"prime_minister_benjamin_netany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=3014","title":{"rendered":"Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Speaks To Congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/csm\/20110524\/ts_csm\/386061\">Yahoo.com<\/a>&nbsp;posted a Christian Science Monitor article about the reception that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu received from the United States Congress yesterday.&nbsp; The article credits at least some of the warm reception the Prime Minister received on the influence of the pro-Israel lobby, long one of the most effective on Capitol Hill.&nbsp; I am willing to acknowledge that the pro-Israel lobby is effective, but I think the reception given to Prime Minister Netanyahu also has to do with Americans&#8217; sense of fair play.&nbsp; I just don&#8217;t think a lot of Americans like the idea of an American President telling another country what its borders should be.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/tobyharnden\/100089347\/netananyahu-speech-leaves-barack-obama-isolated\/\">UK Telegraph<\/a>&nbsp;had an interesting perspective on the speech:<\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><em>&#8220;Right from the get go, with his <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jpost.com\/Headlines\/Article.aspx?id=222026\" jquery1306317434037=\"40\"><em>&#8220;you got bin Laden&#8221;<\/em><\/a><em> line, Netanyahu offered red meat to Congress as well as making enough noises about wanting to achieve peace and being ready to make &#8220;painful compromises&#8221; to persuade most Americans that he is not the roadblock in the Middle East.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Of course, the speech won&#8217;t be seen that way in Britain. One of the most striking differences between the UK and the US is in how Israel and the Palestinians are viewed.
