Today CNS News<\/a> reported that:<\/p>\n

“This year’s election for the U.N. Human Rights Council has, once again, produced a body that has fewer “free” countries – 21 of a total of 47 – and has more than one-third of the seats held by members of the Islamic bloc.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This really does not seem like an ideal situation.  Islamic nations are not known for their support of what western countries would consider human rights.  <\/p>\n

The article lists next year’s Human Rights Council:<\/p>\n

“The HRC for the next year comprises:<\/em><\/p>\n

“Free” countries (21):<\/em><\/b><\/p>\n

“Austria, Benin, Belgium, Botswana, Chile, Costa Rica, Czech, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mauritius, Mexico, Norway, Peru, Poland, Romania, Spain, Switzerland, United States and Uruguay.<\/em><\/p>\n

“”Not free” (12):<\/em><\/b><\/p>\n

“Angola, Cameroon, China, Congo, Cuba, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Libya (currently suspended), Mauritania, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia.<\/em><\/p>\n

“”Partly free” (14):<\/em><\/b><\/p>\n

“Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Djibouti, Ecuador, Guatemala, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Moldova, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal, Uganda, Thailand.<\/em><\/p>\n

“The <\/em>Organization of the Islamic Conference (<\/strong>OIC) members<\/strong> are:  Bangladesh, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Djibouti, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritania, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal and Uganda.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This is not a group of countries committed to protecting human rights as they are commonly understood.  The OIC spends most of its time crafting resolutions that condemn Israel and make criticism of Islam illegal.  This is not a council that will protect or promote anyone’s human rights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
