The Daily Caller<\/a> posted an article yesterday about the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)<\/a> and its compliance with the laws concerning archiving federal documents.<\/p>\n

The article reports:<\/p>\n

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials only archived 86 text messages out of 3.1 million agency employees sent and received in 2015, according to a federal watchdog\u2019s report made public Wednesday by House Committee on Science, Space and Technology<\/a> Chairman Lamar Smith<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The EPA Office of Inspector General<\/a> (IG) released the report<\/a> requested by the Texas Republican, which described enormous text message retention problems within the EPA. One unnamed senior official configured his phone to automatically delete texts after 30 days.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Obviously this sort of behavior makes transparency in government a joke.<\/p>\n

The article further reports:<\/p>\n

The IG claimed EPA officials never \u201cintentionally\u201d violated the Federal Records Act<\/a> and did not include the low number of archived texts in the body of its report, relaying it instead to congressional staff.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Multiple federal laws and regulations require that officials preserve all documents \u2014 including email and text messages \u2014 created in the course of conducting official business of the U.S. government.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is not acceptable behavior. This is one reason Donald Trump<\/a> was elected–Americans<\/a> expect him to drain the swamp that Washington, D.C.<\/a> has become. President Obama<\/a> promised a transparent administration. He has given us anything but.<\/p>\n
