{"id":29706,"date":"2016-11-26T09:03:06","date_gmt":"2016-11-26T14:03:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=29706"},"modified":"2016-11-26T09:03:06","modified_gmt":"2016-11-26T14:03:06","slug":"how-do-federal-regulations-affect-you","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=29706","title":{"rendered":"How Do Federal Regulations Affect You?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday, <a href=\"http:\/\/dailysignal.com\/2016\/11\/23\/the-federal-regulations-that-affect-your-thanksgiving-foods\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Daily Signal<\/a> posted an article entitled, &#8220;The Federal Regulations That Affect Your Thanksgiving Foods.&#8221; Federal regulations seem like a remote concept (unless you are trying to run a small business and adhere to them), so I thought this article needed to be shared.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Let us also give thanks that the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Obama administration\" href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/obama-administration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Obama administration<\/a> will soon cease, albeit leaving behind more than 21,000 regulations that <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"WhiteHouse.gov\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">President Barack Obama<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0regulators issued, and which increased regulatory costs by more than $100 billion annually.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The burden of this vast administrative state is crushing <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&amp;spn=0.1,0.1&amp;q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667 (United%20States)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">America<\/a>\u2019s entrepreneurial spirit, productivity, and economic growth.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nam.org\/Data-and-Reports\/Cost-of-Federal-Regulations\/Federal-Regulation-Full-Study.pdf\">Independent estimates<\/a> find that total regulatory costs are exceeding $2 trillion annually\u2014more than is collected in income taxes each year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So what are some of the regulations that impact Thanksgiving?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em>Turkey<\/em>. Title 9, Part 381.76, of the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Code of Federal Regulations\" href=\"http:\/\/www.archives.gov\/federal-register\/cfr\/about.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Code of Federal Regulations<\/a> directs turkey inspectors on the proper method of examining a frozen bird, to wit: \u201cIf a carcass is frozen, it shall be thoroughly thawed before being opened for examination by the inspector. Each carcass, or all parts comprising such carcass, shall be examined by the inspector, except for parts that are not needed for inspection.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"The Cranberries\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cranberries.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Cranberries<\/a><\/em>. Title 7, Part 929, establishes a \u201cmarketing committee\u201d overseen by the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Department of Agriculture\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8879388889,-77.0300333333&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8879388889,-77.0300333333 (United%20States%20Department%20of%20Agriculture)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">U.S. Department of Agriculture<\/a> to set quotas on the volume of cranberries shipped to handlers from growers in Massachusetts, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Rhode Island\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=41.7,-71.5&amp;spn=1.0,1.0&amp;q=41.7,-71.5 (Rhode%20Island)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Rhode Island<\/a>, Connecticut, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"New Jersey\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=40.0,-74.5&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=40.0,-74.5 (New%20Jersey)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">New Jersey<\/a>, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington, and <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Long Island\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=40.8,-73.3&amp;spn=1.0,1.0&amp;q=40.8,-73.3 (Long%20Island)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Long Island, New York<\/a>. The grower \u201callotments\u201d help to ensure that the price of cranberries remains artificially high.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em>Bread\/Rolls.<\/em> Title 21, Part 136, requires anything labeled as \u201cbread\u201d in a bakery to weigh one-half pound or more after cooling. To be legally called a \u201croll,\u201d each unit must weigh less than one-half pound after cooling.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><em>Potatoes<\/em>. Title 7, Part 51.1546, dictates the proportion of allowable defects among specific grades of spuds. Potatoes graded as \u201cU.S. No. 1\u201d may not exceed the following tolerances at the point of shipping: 5 percent for external defects, 5 percent for internal defects, and not more than a total of 1 percent for potatoes that are frozen or affected by soft rot or wet breakdown. An entirely different set of tolerances apply to U.S. No. 1 potatoes while en route or upon reaching the destination, while similar standards are also set for \u201ccommercial\u201d grade potatoes, \u201cU.S. No. 2\u201d potatoes, and \u201coff-size\u201d potatoes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The list goes on to include green beans, cornmeal (used in stuffing) and pecans. How did we ever exist when we simply bought produce from local farmers that they grew in the ground and sold?
