{"id":28659,"date":"2016-06-29T21:24:59","date_gmt":"2016-06-30T01:24:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=28659"},"modified":"2016-06-29T21:24:59","modified_gmt":"2016-06-30T01:24:59","slug":"holding-on-to-free-speech-by-a-thread","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=28659","title":{"rendered":"Holding On To Free Speech By A Thread"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/fec-dems-vote-to-punish-fox-news-in-major-move-to-muzzle-conservative-media\/article\/2595240\" target=\"_blank\">The Washington Examiner<\/a> posted an article today about a recent <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Voting\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Voting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">vote<\/a> by the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Federal Election Commission\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fec.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Federal Election Commission<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Finally making good on long-harbored anger at <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Media bias\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Media_bias\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">conservative media<\/a>, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Democratic Party (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.democrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Democrats<\/a> on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fec.gov\/members\/members.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Federal Election Commission<\/a> voted in secret to punish <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Fox News Channel\" href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Fox News&#8217;<\/a> sponsorship of a Republican presidential debate, using an obscure law to charge the network with helping those on stage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>It is the first time in history that members of the FEC voted to punish a media outlet&#8217;s debate sponsorship, and it follows several years of Democratic threats against conservative media and websites like the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Drudge Report\" href=\"http:\/\/www.drudgereport.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Drudge Report<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The punishment, however, was blocked by all three Republicans on the commission, resulting in a 3-3 tie vote and no action.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article further explains:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>One of the candidates left out filed a complaint to the FEC, charging that Fox was essentially making a contribution to the 17 candidates by letting them have a voice in the debate.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"CNN\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">CNN<\/a> did the same thing, but there is no indication that they faced a complaint.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The quote &#8220;<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"John Philpot Curran\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Philpot_Curran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Eternal vigilance<\/a> is the price of liberty&#8221; is attributed to <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Thomas Jefferson\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thomas_Jefferson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Thomas Jefferson<\/a>. Regardless of who made the statement, the quote applies to today. There are Americans who want to take away our First and Second Amendment rights.
