{"id":28183,"date":"2016-05-02T13:57:50","date_gmt":"2016-05-02T17:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=28183"},"modified":"2016-05-02T13:57:50","modified_gmt":"2016-05-02T17:57:50","slug":"republicans-in-virginia-are-suing-to-preserve-an-honest-election-in-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=28183","title":{"rendered":"Republicans In Virginia Are Suing To Preserve An Honest Election In 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April 25, I posted an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=28120\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> about the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Executive order\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Executive_order\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Executive Order<\/a> issued by <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Governor of Virginia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Governor_of_Virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Virginia Governor<\/a> <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Terry McAuliffe\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Terry_McAuliffe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Terry McAuliffe<\/a> giving convicted felons the right to vote. The Executive Order would add approximately 200,000 votes to the voter rolls. The majority of the felons would be expected to register and vote as <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Democratic Party (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.democrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Democrats<\/a>. Evidently, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Virginia\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=37.5,-79.0&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=37.5,-79.0 (Virginia)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Virginia<\/a> Republicans have decided to fight the Executive Order.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/wireStory\/virginia-gop-lawmakers-sue-felons-voting-rights-38814642\" target=\"_blank\">ABC News<\/a> is reporting today:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Republican lawmakers in <a class=\"r_lapi\" href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/topics\/news\/virginia.htm\">Virginia<\/a> will file a lawsuit challenging Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe&#8217;s decision to allow more than 200,000 convicted felons to vote in November, GOP leaders said Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Republicans argue the governor has overstepped his constitutional authority with a clear political ploy designed to help the campaign of his friend and Democratic presidential candidate <a class=\"r_lapi\" href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/topics\/news\/whitehouse\/hillary-clinton.htm\">Hillary Clinton<\/a> in the important <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Swing state\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Swing_state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">swing state<\/a> this fall.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8220;Gov. McAuliffe&#8217;s flagrant disregard for the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Constitution of Virginia\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Constitution_of_Virginia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Constitution of Virginia<\/a> and the rule of law must not go unchecked,&#8221; <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Party leaders of the United States Senate\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Party_leaders_of_the_United_States_Senate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Senate Republican Leader<\/a> Thomas Norment said in a statement. He added that McAuliffe&#8217;s predecessors and previous attorneys general examined this issue and concluded Virginia&#8217;s governor can&#8217;t issue blanket restorations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/article\/434491\/terry-mcauliffe-virginia-felons-right-vote-unconstitutional?C5ExPCKchQ1ocAb5.01\" target=\"_blank\">National Review<\/a> article posted on April 25th points out:<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>It is estimated that McAuliffe\u2019s action will add 3.8 percent to the 5.4 million registered voters in Virginia. That may not seem like a lot, but McAuliffe knows very well that Virginia today is a swing state with recent statewide elections that have been decided by a very small margin. In 2013, the current attorney general, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Mark Herring\" href=\"http:\/\/www.markherring.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Mark Herring<\/a> (D.), won his race by only 907 votes. Former Virginia governor <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Bob McDonnell\" href=\"http:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Bob McDonnell<\/a> (R.) won his prior post as attorney general by only 360 votes in 2005. Even the Washington Post, which applauded McAuliffe\u2019s action, acknowledged there is \u201cno doubt\u201d about the \u201cpolitical dimension\u201d in this move by \u201ca Democrat and longtime friend and fundraiser for Bill and Hillary Clinton\u201d \u2014 namely, that it \u201cgrant[s] Democrats a crucial edge in a swing state ahead of November\u2019s presidential election.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>If the Republicans expect to survive in Virginia, they need to fight back.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On April 25, I posted an article about the Executive Order issued by Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe giving convicted felons the right to vote.
