However, some lies have greater consequences than others. <a href=\"http:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/congress-investigating-obama-admin-deception-iran-nuke-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Washington Free Beacon<\/a> posted a story yesterday about an investigation into lies the Obama Administration told <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Congress\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8897222222,-77.0088888889&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8897222222,-77.0088888889 (United%20States%20Congress)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Congress<\/a> about the Iranian nuclear deal. Evidently what Congress was told about the concessions made to <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Iran\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=35.6833333333,51.4166666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=35.6833333333,51.4166666667 (Iran)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Iran<\/a> actually bore little resemblance to the deal that was finally agreed to.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The concerns come after statements from top officials last week suggesting that Iran is set to receive greater weapons and sanctions relief,\u00a0moves that the administration had promised Congress would never take place as <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"White House\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8976694444,-77.03655&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8976694444,-77.03655 (White%20House)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">White House<\/a> officials promoted the deal last summer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cWhen multiple officials\u2014including <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"John Kerry\" href=\"http:\/\/state.gov\/secretary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Secretary Kerry<\/a>, Secretary Lew, and Ambassador Mull\u2014testify in front of Members of Congress, we are inclined to believe them,\u201d Rep. <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Mike Pompeo\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mike_Pompeo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Mike Pompeo<\/a> (R., Kan.) told the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cHowever, the gap between their promises on the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Nuclear program of Iran\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nuclear_program_of_Iran\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Iran nuclear<\/a> deal and today\u2019s scary reality continues to widen. We are now trying to determine whether this was intentional deception on the part of the administration or new levels of disturbing acquiescence to the Iranians,\u201d Pompeo\u00a0said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Congress is believed to be investigating what insiders described to the <em>Free Beacon<\/em> as a range of areas in which administration officials may have understated the breadth of concessions made to the Islamic Republic when trying to persuade lawmakers to sign off on the final deal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article goes on to detail the areas where the actual deal does not resemble the information Congress received.<\/p>\n<p>The article notes that Secretary of State John Kerry promised that under the agreement signed with Iran, Iran would be prohibited from carrying out ballistic missile tests.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Samantha Power, the U.S. ambassador to the U.N., shifted course last week, refusing to call recent Iranian launches a \u201cviolation\u201d in a letter she signed criticizing those launches.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Note to Ms. Power: Iran is not particularly impressed nor responsive to criticism.<\/p>\n<p>The article further reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cThe Obama administration is involved in yet another sleight of hand on sanctions relief as well as the status of U.N. missile sanctions,\u201d Dubowitz sai. \u201cThis is very familiar to those who tracked the Iran nuclear talks and recall the many ways in which broken commitments were justified and redlines were abandoned.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Iranian allies on the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United Nations Security Council\" href=\"http:\/\/un.org\/en\/sc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">U.N. Security Council<\/a>, mainly Russia, have defended the missile tests, arguing that resolution 2231 has only \u201ccalled upon\u201d Iran to refrain from these tests.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Russian Ambassador <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Vitaly Churkin\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vitaly_Churkin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Vitaly Churkin<\/a> recently stated that the newest U.N. resolution governing the nuclear agreement only suggests that Iran stop test firing missiles.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cA call is different from a ban so legally you cannot violate a call, you can comply with a call or you can ignore the call, but you cannot violate a call,\u201d Churkin was quoted as saying. \u201cThe legal distinction is there.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Congressional critics have dismissed the argument and are pressing on the Obama administration to stand up to Iran\u2019s defenders.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>\u201cThe Kremlin\u2019s absurd legal argument after Iran\u2019s March tests that \u2018legally you cannot violate a call\u2019 would essentially allow the Iranian regime to do anything it wants to further develop its ballistic missile program,\u201d the lawmakers wrote in their letter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Iranian nuclear deal was a badly negotiated deal. It was something that <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Barack Obama\" href=\"http:\/\/www.barackobama.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">President Obama<\/a> wanted to put in his legacy, and he gave away the store in order to get it done. He then added insult to injury by reporting the details, nuances, and\u00a0intricacies to Congress in a manner that may not have been entirely truthful. Congress may not be unified on much, but they are pretty unified on the fact that they don&#8217;t like being lied to.<\/p>\n<p>It will be interesting to see exactly what this investigation uncovers and also to see exactly what will happen if in fact Congress has been lied to.
