{"id":27832,"date":"2016-03-19T22:36:47","date_gmt":"2016-03-20T02:36:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=27832"},"modified":"2016-03-19T22:36:47","modified_gmt":"2016-03-20T02:36:47","slug":"the-numbers-tell-the-story-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=27832","title":{"rendered":"The Numbers Tell The Story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Freedom_of_Information_Act_%28United_States%29\" target=\"_blank\">Wikipedia<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), <a title=\"Title 5 of the United States Code\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Title_5_of_the_United_States_Code\">5 U.S.C.<\/a>\u00a0<a class=\"external text\" href=\"http:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/uscode\/text\/5\/552\" rel=\"nofollow\">\u00a7\u00a0552<\/a>, is a federal <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Freedom of information legislation\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Freedom_of_information_legislation\">freedom of information law<\/a> that allows for the full or partial disclosure of previously unreleased information and documents controlled by the <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"United States government\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_government\">United States government<\/a>. The Act defines agency records subject to disclosure, outlines mandatory disclosure procedures and grants nine exemptions to the statute.<sup id=\"cite_ref-II_1-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Freedom_of_Information_Act_%28United_States%29#cite_note-II-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Freedom_of_Information_Act_%28United_States%29#cite_note-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> This amendment was signed into law by President <a title=\"Lyndon B. Johnson\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lyndon_B._Johnson\">Lyndon B. Johnson<\/a>, despite his misgivings,<sup id=\"cite_ref-3\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Freedom_of_Information_Act_%28United_States%29#cite_note-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-4\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Freedom_of_Information_Act_%28United_States%29#cite_note-4\">[4]<\/a><\/sup> on July 4, 1966, and went into effect the following year.<sup id=\"cite_ref-5\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Freedom_of_Information_Act_%28United_States%29#cite_note-5\">[5]<\/a><\/sup><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Freedom of Information Act works well as long as the people in power respect it. Sometimes getting information is a bit of a challenge.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hotair.com\/archives\/2016\/03\/19\/most-transparent-administration-in-history-set-record-for-failure-to-find-requested-documents\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hot Air <\/a>posted the following today:<\/p>\n<p class=\"ap-story-p\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Speaking of Hillary and her top aides, one guess which agency within the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Obama administration\" href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/obama-administration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Obama administration<\/a> had the very worst record when it came to responding to FOIA requests. If you guessed the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Department of State\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8941666667,-77.0483333333&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8941666667,-77.0483333333 (United%20States%20Department%20of%20State)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">State Department<\/a> under Hillary Clinton, you are correct. A report <a href=\"https:\/\/oig.state.gov\/system\/files\/esp-16-01.pdf\">published in January<\/a> by the State Department <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Inspector General\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Inspector_General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Inspector General<\/a> found that out of 240 FOIA requests for information connected to Secretary Clinton, 177 were still outstanding more than a year\u00a0after she left office. Here\u2019s a chart from the report showing that:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ap-story-p\" style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/state-foia-response-e1458410373715.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3898123\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/state-foia-response-e1458410373715.jpg\" alt=\"State FOIA response\" width=\"550\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a><strong>If Clinton wins the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States presidential election, 2016\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_presidential_election%2C_2016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">2016 election<\/a>, the Obama administration will look like the most transparent administration in history by comparison.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"ap-story-p\">The article reports that the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Presidency of Barack Obama\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Obama Administration<\/a> has broken the record for not being able to find documents requested in FOIA requests. Miraculously, when a court order is involved, the documents mysteriously appear. As I said in the beginning of this article, when people on both sides of the request respect FOIA requests, the system works.
