{"id":27730,"date":"2016-03-03T21:15:46","date_gmt":"2016-03-04T02:15:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=27730"},"modified":"2016-03-03T21:15:46","modified_gmt":"2016-03-04T02:15:46","slug":"some-thoughts-on-donald-trumps-healthcare-plan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rightwinggranny.com\/?p=27730","title":{"rendered":"Some Thoughts On Donald Trump&#8217;s Healthcare Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.investors.com\/politics\/editorials\/trumps-health-reform-deserves-two-cheers-with-one-gigantic-asterisk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Investor&#8217;s Business Daily<\/a> posted an article today about <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Donald Trump\" href=\"http:\/\/www.trumponline.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Donald Trump<\/a>&#8216;s plan to reform <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Patient_Protection_and_Affordable_Care_Act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">ObamaCare<\/a>. Most <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667 (United%20States)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Americans<\/a> who have had to change doctors, had their health <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Insurance\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wikinvest.com\/industry\/Insurance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikinvest\">insurance premiums<\/a> rise drastically, or had their deductible amounts skyrocket would consider almost anything on that front good news.<\/p>\n<p>The article reports:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Trump\u2019s written plan at least starts on the right foot, promising to repeal ObamaCare on Day One, and recognizing that Republicans have already developed replacement plans. \u201cThe President and a Republican congress,\u201d Trump\u2019s position paper states, must \u201clead the effort to bring much-needed free-market reforms to the health care industry.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>As with most GOP plans, Trump would lift restrictions on interstate sales of insurance, thereby letting consumers shop around for plans in states that don\u2019t impose a host of costly benefit mandates.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>He\u2019d also expand <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Health savings account\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Health_savings_account\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Health Savings Accounts<\/a>, the one reform that has been a proven success and a standard feature in every GOP reform, although he\u2019s still vague on the specifics.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>And Trump proposes to reform <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Medicaid\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Medicaid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Medicaid<\/a> by turning it into a fixed block grant to states. This is a must-do change, since as currently structured, Medicaid\u2019s matching grant formula only encourages waste and fraud. Trump is right that with a block grant, \u201cstates will have the incentives to seek out and eliminate fraud.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>To remove the tax distortions between employer-provided insurance (which is tax exempt) and individual insurance (which has to be bought with after-tax dollars), Trump would allow taxpayers to deduct the full cost of their individual premiums from taxes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The article goes on to explain that the changes would provide savings for wealthier Americans while not doing much for poorer Americans. However, since the wealthy pay more, you could easily make a case for that.<\/p>\n<p>The article also points out the dangers of depending on Donald Trump to fix healthcare:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>This is a guy, after all, who bragged not too long ago that he was \u201cvery liberal\u201d on health care, and who often talks as though he still is. The plan says nothing about Trump\u2019s oft-repeated and absolutely horrible proposal to have the government negotiate (that is, fix) drug prices for <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Medicare (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Medicare_%28United_States%29\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Medicare<\/a>. He is still completely vague about how he plans to cover everyone and \u201chave the government pay for it.\u201d And the plan doesn\u2019t mention Trump\u2019s stated support for ObamaCare\u2019s \u201cguaranteed issue\u201d regulations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Which Trump would ultimately emerge is anyone\u2019s guess. And, since Trump says that everything is negotiable, who is to say he wouldn\u2019t start cutting deals with <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Democratic Party (United States)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.democrats.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Democrats<\/a> as soon as he gets the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"The Keys to the White House: A Surefire Guide to Predicting the Next President\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Keys-White-House-Predicting-President\/dp\/1568330618%3FSubscriptionId%3D0G81C5DAZ03ZR9WH9X82%26tag%3Dzem-20%26linkCode%3Dxm2%26camp%3D2025%26creative%3D165953%26creativeASIN%3D1568330618\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"amazon\">keys to the White House<\/a>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Voters who want ObamaCare replaced with real free-market reforms are taking a big gamble if they think Trump is the man to actually make it happen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t believe anything until the ink is dry on the President&#8217;s signature, whoever that President may be.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Investor&#8217;s Business Daily posted an article today about Donald Trump&#8216;s plan to reform ObamaCare.
