Therefore, constitutionally the House of Representatives controls <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Government spending\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Government_spending\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">government spending<\/a>. In recent years, voters concerned about the amount of government spending and the rapidly increasing <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States public debt\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_public_debt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">federal deficit<\/a> have sent people to <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Congress\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8897222222,-77.0088888889&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8897222222,-77.0088888889 (United%20States%20Congress)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Congress<\/a> that promised to shrink government and cut spending. Evidently there is something in the water in Washington, D.C., because as soon as those <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Representative democracy\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Representative_democracy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">elected representatives<\/a> get to Washington, they forget why there were elected. There are a few exceptions, but they are few. One <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States House of Representatives\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8888888889,-77.0088888889&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.8888888889,-77.0088888889 (United%20States%20House%20of%20Representatives)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Representative<\/a> may have the answer to this problem.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the<a href=\"http:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2016\/02\/05\/new-gop-bill-would-slash-congressional-salaries-until-budget-is-balanced\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Daily Caller<\/a> posted an article about <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Legislation\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Legislation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">legislation<\/a> introduced on Friday by <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Iowa\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=42.0,-93.0&amp;spn=3.0,3.0&amp;q=42.0,-93.0 (Iowa)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">Iowa<\/a> Republican Rep. Rod Blum.<\/p>\n<p>The article states:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Iowa Republican Rep. Rod Blum introduced legislation Friday\u00a0that would decrease congressional members\u2019 salaries annually until the national budget is balanced.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>Lawmakers\u2019 pay would be docked 5 percent the first year and an additional 10 percent each year after, according to the legislation.\u00a0The\u00a0<a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2007\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fiscal_Responsibility_Act_of_2007\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Fiscal Responsibility Act<\/a> of 2016 would restore compensation levels upon the closure of the\u00a0deficit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Representative Blum explained that there need to be consequences when Congress mismanages resources. In the private sector, there are consequences. Thus far, in Congress there are not consequences.
