Richard Hudson (R-NC) and other Members of the Homeland Security Committee, held a press conference about the arrest of two <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Refugees of Iraq\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Refugees_of_Iraq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Iraqi refugees<\/a>. The video of the press conference is posted at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Le82MctHpTM&amp;feature=share\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is the press conference:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Le82MctHpTM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is the story as reported on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kxxv.com\/story\/30922745\/rep-michael-mccaul-calls-for-change-after-federal-agents-arrest-two-iraqi-refugees\" target=\"_blank\">News 25<\/a> in Texas:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States House Committee on Homeland Security\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_House_Committee_on_Homeland_Security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">House Homeland Security Committee<\/a> Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX)\u00a0wants the Senate to take up the<em> <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=38.8833333333,-77.0166666667 (United%20States)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">American<\/a> Security Against Foreign Enemies (SAFE) Act of 2015.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>McCaul&#8217;s push for the\u00a0<em>SAFE Act<\/em>\u00a0was included\u00a0in a statement responding\u00a0to\u00a0two Iraqi-born refugees\u00a0being arrested by U.S.officials on terror-related charges.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>&#8220;While I commend the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Federal Bureau of Investigation\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?ll=38.894465,-77.024503&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=38.894465,-77.024503 (Federal%20Bureau%20of%20Investigation)&amp;t=h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"geolocation\">FBI<\/a> for their hard work, these arrests heighten my concern that our refugee program is susceptible to exploitation by terrorists,&#8221; Chairman McCaul said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The House passed the legislation\u00a0in November with a bipartisan majority.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>It requires comprehensive background checks of every refugee from Iraq or Syria before they can come into the U.S.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>The FBI would have to certify the background investigation of each person.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>In addition, the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Secretary of Homeland Security\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Secretary_of_Homeland_Security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Secretary of Homeland Security<\/a>, along with the FBI Director and the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Director of National Intelligence\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dni.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage\">Director of National Intelligence<\/a>, would have to certify to Congress that each refugee is not a security risk.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is the Congressional oath of office:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that <strong>I will support and defend the <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"United States Constitution\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Constitution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"wikipedia\">Constitution of the United States<\/a> against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;<\/strong> that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: <strong>So help me God.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s time for the members of Congress to live up to their oath.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On January 8th, Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), along with Rep.
