Breitbart.com<\/a> posted an article yesterday about President Obama’s<\/a> new executive order regarding guns. The title of the article is “3 Reasons Obama’s Claim to Support the 2nd Amendment<\/a> Doesn’t Ring True.” The article reminds us of three past statements from the President that have proved to be lies even as they were being made.<\/p>\n

The President stated in his speech yesterday:<\/p>\n

Now, I want to be absolutely clear at the start \u2014 and I\u2019ve said this over and over again, this also becomes routine, there is a ritual about this whole thing that I have to do \u2014 I believe in the Second Amendment<\/a>. It\u2019s there written on the paper. It guarantees a right to bear arms. No matter how many times people try to twist my words around \u2014 I taught constitutional law, I know a little about this \u2014 I get it. But I also believe that we can find ways to reduce gun violence consistent with the Second Amendment.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The article states:<\/p>\n

Not a very convincing performance. Is there any\u00a0other Amendment to the Constitution the president would downplay in this way? Saying, \u201cIt\u2019s there written on the paper\u201d\u00a0would be an odd, dismissive\u00a0comment from someone announcing plans to tighten up the 1st or 5th Amendment<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If the tone\u00a0struck you as vaguely\u00a0familiar, that suggests\u00a0you\u2019ve been paying attention. President Obama has often promised that he understood people\u2019s concerns about a particular issue, only to reveal later it was all about getting his way.<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Obama stated repeatedly, \u201cIf you like your plan, you can keep your plan.\u201d<\/p>\n

The article reminds us:<\/p>\n

As it turns out, that was not true. In fact, it was always impossible based on the design of the law. When\u00a0the president was called on the falsehood, he tried to move the goalposts. In November 2013, he said, \u201cwhat we said was you can keep it if it hasn\u2019t changed since the law passed.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

That’s not what he said.<\/p>\n

The article states:<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t the only politically expedient lie the president told about Obamacare<\/a>. He also said explicitly that calling the\u00a0public option a \u201ctrojan-horse\u201d for single-payer healthcare<\/a> was an \u201cillegitimate\u201d claim made by his opponents who were \u201cnot telling the truth.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unfortunately for the president, not all of his friends in Congress<\/a> and the media were as disciplined. A number of them revealed the public option was a sneaky strategy<\/a> for getting what the party really wanted: single-payer healthcare. Some who abetted the president\u2019s lies at the time have since admitted<\/a> that was the desired goal<\/a> all along. The president tried to fool the American<\/a> people, just as he had with the \u201ckeep your plan\u201d promise. He almost got away with it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The third reason has to do with President Obama’s stand on homosexual marriage.<\/p>\n

The article reminds us:<\/p>\n

Before he became president, Obama told Pastor Rick Warren<\/a>, \u201cI believe that marriage is the union between a man and a woman.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

…(David) Axelrod<\/a> writes that he knew Obama was in favor of same-sex marriages during the first presidential campaign, even as Obama publicly said he only supported civil unions, not full marriages. Axelrod also admits to counseling Obama to conceal that position for political reasons. \u201cOpposition to gay marriage was particularly strong in the black church, and as he ran for higher office, he grudgingly accepted the counsel of more pragmatic folks like me, and modified his position to support civil unions rather than marriage, which he would term a \u2018sacred union,\u2019\u201d Axelrod writes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

How many times are we supposed to believe a President who seems to have a problem telling the truth on major issues?<\/p>\n
